Or is that an issue other models like the ones with the 1.8L engine other Prius cars are known to have in certain years?

Any car can burn oil, but this problem is much more closely associated with the 2010+ 1.8L engine.

Running synthetic oil might help prevent it and also doing regular oil and filter changes.
I'm going to run 0w20 full synthetic in mine as the manual suggests.
Probably something like Castrol Magnatec. :)

I suggest never running anything other than full synthetic 0w-20. Were you using something else?

There is nothing magic about "synthetic" oil.
These days, most labeled that way is not "real" synthetic anyway......per the original definition.
I'm sure there have been some reports of high oil usage with very high mileage C's........but I don't remember seeing any.

They don't! The Gen 2 cars did have the problem and so did some other Toyota cars. It had to do with the rings as I recall. Not sure if they were sensitive to how the break ins are done? On the C no issues with it. They seem to be sealing good. On our Gen 2, depending on the oil brand and model they can burn more or less. For example, when I used Mobil 1 basic it burned more every 1000 miles vs Mobil 1 Ultimate? Even M1 high millage or EP did burned less then the standard M1.

It has not used any oil that I'm aware of.
My car now has 112,000 miles on it.

Good to know, seems like the Prius C engine is not prone to burn oil as far as i know, i have never heard of one of them burning oil. Also did yours have any ABS actuator failure? or has it been replaced?

May i ask you how many miles your Prius C have now? and has it give you any ABS actuator problems? mine did, and the actuator motor runs every 4 seconds, common thing that happens apparently to gen 1, 2 and 3 due to a defect in the actuator brake fluid valves, fluid keeps losing pressure.

Clearly as we can see i was referring since the last time i asked these, a lot can happen in that frame of time, like mine when i asked these questions back then, my ABS actuator was working as it should. Being this a common issue in Toyota cars apparently, past 100,000 miles, the problem will start showing up more and more on vehicles with the defective part.

Does C use the same engine as the Prius Gen-2? If so what makes the C different from Gen-2 which is prone to oil burning?

I know it’s just a slightly updated version of the 1.5 with an updated top end. It was probably shipped with synthetic oil too, so that probably helped.

As crazy as it sounds I have a 2004 with 228k that doesn’t burn oil. Before I had this car I thought of the few people that said theirs didn’t burn oil were full of BS since back in the day we had a handful of gen2 Prii in the family and they all seemed to at least burn a little bit of oil. I run synthetic oil but I don’t think it’s original owner did, but they did change the oil often.

That is good to know. How often do you change your Prius-C oil?

    I don’t have a Prius C, I have a gen2 I change it every 5-6k.

the 1.5 is a great reliable motor, unlike the 1.8 from 2010-2015 with all its egr, headgasket issues, and oil burning.

The smaller the engine the better, less compression, less complex, less things to break, and more efficient.
