That just to remove the surface charge. Mine is 5 minutes puts a little more load on it. 2 completely different things.

Your Yellowtop is an engineered deep cycle battery, meaning I consider it better performing than the original Prius battery with respect to depth of discharge. Applying a deep cycle test to an AGM is the same? (I don't know, but I don't like draining my batteries more than I have to because it shortens their lifespans).

Not a solar one but today I ended up buying Schumacher SC1319 1.5A Battery Charger/Maintainer. We have two cars so it ll be needed eventually even if doesn't get well with Prius. What I ll do is to charge it fully and then track the voltage by a cigarette voltmeter all the time. So I ll be able to see the over-charging status (if any) during rides and car-off voltage also.

Most cars these days do NOT have the cigarette lighter hot while the car is off.

I'm guessing you didn't look up Solar BA9?

A 1.5 amp maintainer will take forever to fully charge a 12 volt battery. Its not designed to fully charge its designed to keep it at 12.6 or thereabouts.

Of course I took a look at that one, it's more professional for me I think. I ll just keep my eyes on the battery and change it in a year I bet.
By the way, I later remembered that an OBDII was pluggeg all the time since I ve been involving in a research project. It might be the reason for either load or drain. I learned it's always on so started to unplug it after driving from now on. I ll share the future data.
With the cigarette voltmeter, my plan is to measure just by pressing start button without the car getting into ready mode. Once it runs I ll be able to see the voltage in running mode, too

Looks like a good unit. Thank you for sharing it. I compared with higher models and find I don't need a printer so it's a good compromise feature vs price.

I've dealt with Midtronics, which I got a 200 model, (real basic), I believe for an ancient Acton code scanner. It does not work on "deep cycle" batteries.

For the Prius battery I just trust/follow the Toyota instruction. BUT now it has an LiFePO4 so I don't even test it. I just make sure to top off the charge once in a while.

The 12v battery is being charged now, if I can see the green light, fully charged by morning, what should I expect thereafter? How long can this charging keep voltage level in a good position?
Of course it depends on how old it is but just rough expectations I m wondering.

Check with something like Solar BA9. Battery retailers will likely have similar but pro-level tester and will likely test for free, hoping to get your business down the road.

These tester assess the battery's Cold Cranking Amps, compare to spec (which you've entered), then give you a verdict. They're superior to a rudimentary voltage check, which doesn't mean that much.

Impossible to say. A wild guess does you NO good.

If it does indicate a full charge, leave it connected for a few hours.......and then remove the charger overnight.
Immediately upon disconnecting the charger, with the car still OFF, the battery should read 12.8 volts or more.
Leave it sit overnight. If it is below 12.6, then there likely isn't much life left.

The green light came up and stayed for a couple hours. Then I only checked the voltage from the display and this time it was 11.0 instead of 10.5-6 as earlier checks. Measured right after getting home, it was exactly 12.80

    The details are important.
The "onboard" voltage measurement does NOT give you an accurate reading on the battery itself.
And neither does putting a meter on the battery immediately after driving it or having it connected to a charger.
Unless and until you give us a reading taken after it sits OFF and undisturbed overnight, we can't give you a meaningful opinion.

@abdullah arslan See my post #37 for Toyota Tech Info instructions on how to test the battery.

How immediate is this battery change? Getting close to 3 pages and counting.
