During some cleaning at home, an old Nintendo Popeye "Game & Watch" table top turned up (used to play it in elementary school). Mine looks exactly like the one in the picture I posted (from someone's auction). I still have the original box, manual and mine still works. Are these actually collectible/worth a lot?

On RarityGuide.com - Nintendo Game & Watch Rarity Guide - Price Guide (I stumbled across this site and know nothing about it), it claims that the "RarityMeter" on this is 80% and that these can fetch from $108 (for loose) to $840 (for new in box).

I dug around on completed Ebay auctions and am confused on their value. (You might need an Ebay account to see these).

Vintage Nintendo Game & Watch Table Top POPEYE Game MIB - eBay (item 150363898735 end time Aug-11-09 20:23:54 PDT) - fetched $960!!!

    Yet, I saw these:
    - $159 ended w/no bids
    - $75 ended w/no bids
    - sold for $34.33

I see some panorama versions that are supposed to be worth less that sold for $100.15 and $88.08.

Think I can fetch at least $100 for mine? Should I hang onto it hoping it'll be worth even more?

Is there a better forum for this type of question? I'm not at all into collectibles.

I don't know if the KLOV forum would know any more since they deal mostly in arcade games but you may want to ask over there.

You could always put it up on ebay just to see what you could get. Just put a reserve of $999.99 or something higher if you don't really want to sell it. It will cost you a little bit of money to do that but you would be able to see what it would go for.

The box is whats valuable. There are other finished auctions for similar toys at even higher prices($1400).They all have the box in mint condition.
BTW Its a lot cheaper listing fee on Ebay, just to start an auction at the lowest you would want to take, rather than using a hidden reserve. The cost to list starting at $900 would be around $3.
To use a $900 reserve would be much more .

But with a reserve you could actually see what people are willing to bid. Thats if you want to go that route. If your willing to sell it at say $500 and you start your auction at $500 and it does not sell you have no idea on what to really sell it for because no one was bidding. If you really want to sell it start with a high reserve and see what happens. I believe if it does not sell you can relist with a lower reserve for free. Its been a few years since I was allowed to sell anything so things may have changed.

I've been in PM w/the last poster and have been too lazy/busy to put it on Ebay but at the same time, I'm a bit hesitant to sell.
Anyone on this? Do the values of these things tend to rise? Will I be kicking myself years down the road for letting it go for too little?

Right now on Ebay, the highest I've seen a tabletop version (my version) successfully sell for is $550 (!) and the lowest is $90 for one w/no box and instructions. I still have the box, instructions and cardboard inserts.

The thing about collectibles that can't be made anymore, is that they inherently collect in value. Maybe not fast, but they do. So many of them die, get tossed, break, or gifted to someone who doesn't care and wrecks it. So the number existing in good condition decrease and the value for one in good condition increases.

If you don't like it, then sell it. It is sort of useless to have a collectable that you don't like. Maybe you can swap it for something you do like that just happens to be a collectable. That way you like it and take care of it, but it also has increasing value.

I actually collect these, along with the old wristwatch games like PacMan, Frogger, etc.. I have several of the Coleco games- Donkey Kong, PacMan, Ms. PacMan, Frogger, Galaxian. I also had Popeye several years ago and auctioned it off for over $100.00 in good condition but no box or battery cover. With box and in mint condition they would go for several hundred- if someone was offering more than that, I would accept nothing but cash for payment since it is so easy to scam on eBay. Anyway, the thing with the 1980's games is that there was a heyday for getting premiums, but it was back in the early 2000's when the people who were nostalgic for them were in their early thirties. That time has passed and the values have flattened or gone down, not up. eBay is also not the greatest indicator of value.

Wow. This is a thread resurrection. I still have it and haven't really done any sort of monitoring or research.

Will try to dig around a bit more on prices/value. Right now, Nintendo Game & Watch Rarity Guide - Rarity List - G&W Price Guide - Page 3 says for tabletop (what I have), NIB $740, CIB $320, and L $102. Compared to what I posted in the OP, the NIB and L values have gone down.

Mine's definitely not NIB and not L (loose) per the definitions at RarityGuide.com - Online Rarity Guides - Price Guides - Hobbies.
