My office at the Detroit courthouse was just down the hall from the US Attorney's evidence vault.

It seems they pursued a lot of cases where somebody's beam scale would be taken into evidence. Ohaus 700 series apparently was popular among the local entrepreneurs.

So these things would be brought into the vault and they would stay there for the pendency and conduct of somebody's trial, and then they would be taken into the hallway and jumped on to discourage reuse, and left in pieces there in the hallway for the cleaning crew to dispose of.

Because the jumping-on was kind of a variable process, I eventually scavenged enough pieces from the hallway to assemble one that was functional. I've had it for a quarter century now....

I suppose it might bear some traces of its past, if I ever get framed for some offense and some evidence tech goes all gung-ho about swabbing it.

"My office at the Detroit courthouse" sounds like it should be a source of taller tales than this one :D

Well, hmm. Hanging out on the roof for the Detroit-Windsor joint fireworks on the river, that was kind of tall.

One has to be deliberate with one's tales, look for threads where one of them kind of slots in, not just spend them all at once.

Wondering how badly I startled Judge Rosen when he showed up for work and found me locked in his stairwell?

Why I was relieved that the sysadmin from Probation/Pretrial had stolen $30k worth of PC memory?

Why a colleague of mine was not happy that there's a holiday in the second half of January?

I've long counted myself fortunate that two guys name of Nichols and McVeigh hatched a blow-up-a-courthouse plot in my district, but then went to somebody else's district to do it.

Like the big loud blast at the end of the fireworks show, that's the story we want to hear. Let it rip.

I would have preferred it wasn't ours they did it in not that I wanted anyone else's to get it either.

Congratulations are due the Michigan police and FBI for breaking up the kidnapping plot by 'boys playing with guns.'

Source: Accused militia members arraigned on domestic terrorism charges in Michigan | Reuters

Six men arrested on suspicion of taking part in a plot by armed extremists to kidnap Michigan’s governor have been arraigned on domestic terrorism and weapons charges, while a seventh awaits extradition from South Carolina, authorities said on Friday.
    . . .
In addition to the seven suspects held on state charges, six men were arrested on federal charges of conspiring to kidnap the governor, for which they could face life in prison if convicted.

Yeah, my state of origin seems to grow more of that kind of action than anybody really needs.

In Alabama, some KKK members killed a young black man. His mother insisted on an open coffin funeral. Later, she sued in civil court and got a judgement that took everything the KKK had. There is still a judgement against the KKK and anytime they stick their heads up, the sheriff is soon there and stuff confiscated.

... while the U.S. Attorney General, who would normally have something to say to be included in the initial press releases of such high profile cases, remains strangely silent. No words comparable to his frequent words against antifa and left wing extremists in other matters.

And the POTUS's only words about this were to criticize the Governor / targeted victim for not thanking Him for thwarting the plot. She had thanked law enforcement and prosecutors for that.

politicians warnings are falling on deaf ears. the only people i feel bad for are health care workers and other front liners who contract it through no fault of their own.

too many pols have been photographed doing what they say not to do.

Time has come to feast on the beast! But a few millions of years ago the table might have turned.

Roman Uchytel, excellent painter of earth's past life, won't mind if I put his preview here. Perhaps some art will get purchased :)

Fossil record is silent on whether Titanis had wattle or snood. Meleagris gallopavo is sporty, but lacking in the beak department.

    Just look at those drumsticks!

Unfortunately, my current health situation dictates that I avoid alcohol, unless in form of hand sanitizer! HAHAHA!
