I haven't toyed with it yet because no matter what hands free device I use the other party no matter who they are will always say they can't hear me or my voice is too low.

I just held my phone with one hand over the years because I am sick of it.

So....is the handsfree in the Prius any good?

As of January 1st it will be illegal to hold the phone and drive in Virginia.

    Thanks.

The OEM bluetooth is usable, but your mileage will likely vary. Remember the mic is above your head.

The system works well in our 2007 Prius. No one has ever complained that they can't understand what we are saying (unlike whenever we've tried to use a speakerphone), and we can also clearly understand whatever the other party is saying.

I didn't realize there were so many states that hadn't banned it yet. No wonder traffic fatalities have been so resistant to reductions of the past quarter century, not falling nearly as fast as the modern safety improvements should have reduced them.

    Same.

I will add also that both the speaker volume and mic sensitivity can be adjusted as required.

My car also has ASL (automatic sound level) that adjusts the speaker level automatically in relation to speed (higher speed = higher noise). That also works well.

Awesome, and glad to hear. Again, I had given up having owned so many aftermarket devices on so many different cars. Hopefully the 05 setup is no different than the 07.

The US setup might be different, speaker yes, mic sensitivity no. Could've been it just worked, and I had no need to explore.

The ASL was on option for the JBL 9 way trim, but I'm not sure about the other trims.

I have that JBL setup in my 2006, ASL turned on. Never had anyone say they could not hear me. Me hearing them on the other hand, I do need hearing aids so...

on my prius C the speakerphone is great.. My buddy just bought a gen 2 and i drove it back for him.. i couldn't find the bluetooth settings. Does it require the car to be in park to appear? it is a 2004. on my 07 i havne't looked yet since i'm still trying to replace the cats.

My wife said it was so clear she couldn't believe I was on handsfree.
