I briefly talked to a Toyota dealer about this but never really got a quote.

I got the 2020 LE and didn’t realize the smart key is only on the driver, is it possible to put it on the passenger and trunk like I had with my 2016?

Has anyone done it or got a quote from a dealer for it?

    Thanks.

There was discussion about this a while ago - actually several times. I think the answer was - it would be cheaper to replace the car.

Maybe GOOGLE the Question with "PriusChat" in your query.

Ok I will, it’s amazing you would think it’s almost like a plug and play solution because they are all built roughly the same.

Even routing a wire to the door to make this possible with a new antenna and handle for the door.

I think I did find that thread and thought maybe it was just a challenge because it was referring old gen’s of the Prius, thanks again though.

Some previous cars I've owned, they sell in 3 or 4 grades - and in reality, they generally didn't include stuff to make it easy to do upgrades. That's marketing.

Generally not like just taking out a radio and putting in a Cassette/Radio like we did in the '70s - more like deciding that you want PowerSteering in your '60s car - cheaper to swap cars.

But - give it a go, you might find that it's possible. Without replacing harnesses and ECUs.

Subscribing to techinfo (more info) and studying the wiring diagram differences between the one-door and all-door systems will probably be the best way to figure out how big the project will be. The best part is it can be done in an armchair before any disassembly of the car.

Thanks, I am looking into it and finding good info, you can hook into the door smart key wiring to make it work on the other doors but a new ECU seems like better option as it will not just be a “hack” and legit way to go.

While I know that this would mean learning a new "habit", which for some people seems like the end of the world..............
Can you not unlock the car from ANYPLACE nearby by using the "remote" FOB ??

And yes, I do understand the problem......since my new Ford does not have a setting to unlock the doors when you put it in PARK; must actually turn the ignition OFF. I am slowly getting used to the difference.......and NOT loosing any sleep over it.

I've had mine for a few years now, it's not like I can't deal with it as is, but I like to keep my key in pocket or backpack and so it's nice when you want to run and grab something from passenger or trunk and not need to either dig for key or go to driver door (talk about first world problems, I know). Honestly, I think I'm just spoiled because my parent's cars had that functionality and I kind of miss it.

Did you ever find a solution to this? It is so annoying that they removed this when they already had it for previous years. Can't lock the car after taking groceries out of the trunk without having to fumble around to find the key fob

Yes, just purchased a 2021 LE AWD and was so disappointed that the passenger and hatch doors don't open with proximity. I drove a 2006 for 15 years and really enjoyed not dragging out my fob out of my purse all the time. Also, there is less storage inside the car than in my previous one. Trade offs I guess...

The extra value of the XLE is worth the cost, however we HATE the fake leather seats and prefer cloth, especially in hot weather. So unfortunately we endure the lack of 3 door smart locks and the bigger screen (although NO android auto). Remember the days when the fake leather (vinyl) seats were the lowest cost option. Now they have duped this generation to think this is a better choice. Go figure.

Yep - had genuine leather on 2 VOLVOs. Within 75 nano-seconds, they had Lambskin Seatcovers. In the tropics, and the 2nd one we were in the semi-tropics, they were ridiculous. Smelled nice though.
