Hahaha, this is exactly what I do and I love how you described it. I generally have a good idea of when the ICE will kick on or not, but every now and then I'll be surprised.

This quest for electric-only seems analogous to:

I haven't gone grocery shopping in a week, I've saved so much money.

Yes but, you're out of most everything, and the shopping list is getting longer and longer.

It’s always interesting to see what my wife gets when she drives it because she doesn’t think about it and her numbers aren’t too off from mine. It can definitely be overthought.

Any writeups on the warm up stages available for the Gen 4?

    IF
you don't get warmup mode when starting
and you know about how far the gen4 will go normally at the charge level it's at and the ambient temp

    it might go further
    IF
the driver keeps the gen4 at creep home speed for a mile, than below 25 mph for another mile.
    - does the gen4 usually go more than 2 miles EV from a cold start, anyway?

The process worked in the PiP at temps below 14 F in EV mode. Might want to give it a try with the Gen4 to see if warming up the inverter coolant works like it did for me with the PiP.

But you'd have to make sure to turn OFF the Climate Control a moment after you <START>. Otherwise it'll try to warm you up.

The reality is - unless you need to do a mouse-quiet creep, there will be no advantage - it's got to warm up at sometime. If you wait till there is no Hybrid battery, it will just put extra energy into recharging it instead of just warming the energy. I think TOYOTA put a lot of thought into how it works automatically - and we're not going to improve it much, if any.

I agree @alanclarkeau although there may be some members interested in figuring out what some of the ins and outs are of the mysterious warmup cycles and how the car uses the traction pack at any given temp. For those with heated garages it will surely be different than for those parking the gen4 outside overnight when temps drop.
