Thank you for taking time to contact Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. and we appreciate the opportunity to address your inquiry regarding the inclusion of Android Auto® in our vehicles.

While Toyota strives to innovate and look for ways to include new technology in our vehicles, Toyota has not announced an Android Auto® retrofit strategy at this time. We certainly appreciate your inquiry and interest. You can sign up for the latest updates with our RSS Feeds and/or receive email alerts when new information is posted in the Toyota USA Newsroom.

Your feedback has been documented at our National Headquarters. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us.

    Sincerely,

    Christina C.

Did the Toyota thing. Same androgynous result.

Entune is fair and better than nothing.

Anyone tried changing the phone charger? It didn't work well with my Samsung phone. I'm considering yanking the factory pad and installing a compatible pad.

Thanks for asking them, at least it lets them know there are people who do want Android Auto.

I agree, Endtune is okay for what we do, I don't have any big complaints.

My wife and I both use phones we have to plug in to charge so as of yet have not used the wireless charger.

I'm on my first week with a 2020 Limited. So far, I'm loving it. And I'm coming from a 2018 Mercedes E400, so that's saying something! Anywho, the Mercedes has Android Auto. I used it a few times, and quickly decided it wasn't worth the bother of plugging my phone in. It really just didn't do anything useful for me. If the car didn't have navigation, I'm sure I would feel differently.

Well, I am with you on not needing Android Auto. But, you may feel differently when you have to update map data on your in-car nav. That $200 give or take. No free update like G-map or Waze.;)

I'm In Canada and looking at 2021 with Technology and AWD. The upgraded Technology vs regular Technology comes with a bigger screen but no Android and a few more features. Is it better to save the money and get the regular Tech or are the upgrades including the screen worth it?

Speaking of Android Auto or the lack of it, I just noticed a huge Denso Ten headquarters while I was driving in Torrance, California yesterday. Denso Ten makes the smaller head unit on Prius Prime, while Denso makes the larger head unit.

Denso Ten is one of the subsidiaries of the parent company Denso Corporation. They may be just a labeling difference rather than a manufacturing distinction.

No, they are different companies, even though they are owned by the same parent company. This is why the large head unit is not getting Android Auto, as they have separate R&D facilities. The Prius Prime new-car features manual says that the larger head unit and microSD card are manufactured by "DENSO" and the stereo amplifier is manufactured by "JBL" and the smaller head unit is manufactured by "DENSO TEN (formerly FUJITSU TEN)." Since Denso Ten is more specialized than Denso on multimedia, they are able to keep their products more up-to-date and sophisticated.

Yes I’d save the money and stick with the regular Tech AWD-e. Yes, there are some nice things like a garage door opener, adaptive headlights and a HUD but aside from the “wow” factor of the 11.6” screen and embedded navigation (if you prefer that over using your phone), $3,000 is a lot.

This is coming from someone who owns a fully loaded Prime with all those features :). I do like them but the way that Toyota packaged the regular Prius, I think you’re better off with the regular Tech.

Thanks! Just bought a 2021 Tech AWD-e without the advanced package. Turns out I prefer the 7 inch screen anyway. The 11.6 is "wow" at first but it doesn't add much functionality and isn't that good to look at.

Thanks for clarification, I wonder why they put AA in basic unit and could not figure how to put in the higher end model lines. Also it would be nice to have the AA wireless version of it on the car.

I kinda wonder if it's maybe not that they "can't" figure it out, but maybe rather that they don't want to put the time and expense into it ?

Unfortunately, Toyota is not the best OEM when it comes to multimedia, to say the least. It could be a decade before we see wireless Android Auto on any Toyota, despite many other OEMs have started offering it.
