I can get a factory stereo from a local yard for 13 bucks. Would a dealership likely give me the code if I had a receipt from the junkyard and is there anything to look out for when removing the head unit? I have already taken the a/c vent holders, etc. off and have gotten the existing unit out of it's mount. Existing is an aftermarket unit that won't allow pairing and setting changes. I've already called Pioneer on this and have grounded the parking brake switch wire and installed a ground interrupt switch with no luck on this problem.

I'm under the impression there is no code for the head unit, what makes you think otherwise?

I've disconnected the 12v and never had to enter a code. Maybe call the dealer and ask if there is a code, or how you can get it.

I had not seen that. A good deal of helpful info in there.
