So here is my EGR that I took out today.

Back breaking labor just so you know.

I started at 11:30am and went on until 4:30pm

Still not done though will finish it tomorrow but while I had everything out I threw in a new upstream air/fuel sensor while on a break from the egr pissing me off.

Will clean the manifold and put in new spark plugs tomorrow. 20210202_150003.jpeg 20210202_145947.jpeg

Hard work! What mileage is on the car and what symptoms does it have?

Do you usually use tier A fuel?

    It has 186,XXX miles.
I use whatever gas is cheaper.
I sometimes use a fuel treatment bottle.

    Just doing it for maintenance.
Sometimes it has the shakes in cold cold mornings.

Maybe that's just what it looks like after traveling for one light-second.

I can see right through my clean egr.

I could not see any light through my original egr with 186k miles.

Make it easier to remember when to clean an EGR. Light barely can keep up with a Prius after a second so none will come out of the other end. :)

Seriously, like, you've never looked at your odometer rolling 186,282 miles (or 292,792 km) and thought "my car's now gone as far as light goes in a second?"

Or hit 239,000 miles and thought "I could've been to the moon"?

Never quite got there in my Gen 1 ... it got crunched around 5,000 miles shy of lunar mileage.

Whoa, seems like I accused of missing a joke?

Hah Im sure there is a thread for Old men who want to giggle.

Seriously, my second comment was not a reply to your light joke.

I have an original clogged egr and a clean one.

I wouldnt do that, he seems to have issues.

Maybe it is his age, too many miles on him.

Hopefully it is not like covid and can spread.

I strongly believe genetics and your diet has a lot to do with it.

    Moving on though

That’s pretty much totally clogged. I think you’ll find the Exhaust Gas Recirculation passages in the intake as bad or worse, especially at cylinder one.

Intake manifold cleaned and new gasket put on.

Replaced the old egr with a fresh and cleaned one.

Put in the new iridium spark plugs from PulStar.com

    And finally a new upstream air/fuel sensor. Screenshot_2021-01-24-14-25-32.jpeg 20210203_141734.jpeg

@AzusaPrius: Is this the first time for spark plugs change? If so, then the stock spark plugs can last over 186k miles.

How do they look? Can you post pictures of the replaced spark plugs?

Sure I can post them but this is the second set I have put in.

The ones I took out were the originals that toyota used.

I will dig for the pics and post back.

Actually I have put in three different sets of spark plugs in it.

E3 spark plugs, Bosch double iridium spark plugs and this last set which are Pulstar plasma core iridium spark plugs.

The original Denso plugs I took out at about 160k miles.
