HELP! I have a 2010 that is hesitating under gas power at all speeds except when electric only. Its more like a constant jerking motion morenoticable with light throttle. Its throwing no codes. Not noticeable when I floor it/high rpm. Would water in the gas tank throw a code? I put in a bottle of Heet and drove about 20 miles and put another one in and drove another 10 miles with no change. My regular mechanic took a look and ditched me. What can cause this and not throw a code?

I cleaned the EGR cooler and tube, cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle plate, and replaced the plugs and PVC last summer.

Not all OBD2 scanners are hybrid compatible, which device/app are you using to read the OBD2 codes (DTCs) with?

Many DIYers will use a 'mini-vci' cable (20 usd) and techstream (dealer technician software) installed on a windows device.

245K. Don't tell me blown head LOL! The jerking is quite pronounced whereas when I had a bad plug last year it was loss of power and some sputtering and threw a code.

I think my mech has a good reader that he plugs in with a line...much more detail than my bluetooth reader.

Try a leak down test. But with those miles and symptoms, and having only recently done the EGR, head gasket failure is a strong possibility.

Likely best to hand over to competent pros; a special valve set and compressed air is needed.

Still exploring...seems to be making an unusual noise near or at what I think is the fuel injection bank. See the video at

Have you heard this before? This is with the gas engine not running but the system is on.

    Sorry, no ideas.

How was the Exhaust Gas Recirculation when you cleaned last summer? How much clogging in the cooler? Did you also clean the EGR passages in intake manifold, in particular the small ones (roughly 1/4” ID) at each port? How were they?

With the miles and very belated cleaning, head gasket failure is pretty much a given, just saying.

The EGR cooler was probably 80 or 90 % clogged. I made an appointment at the Toyota Dealership for next week to diagnose the problem.

You cleaned the intake manifold Exhaust Gas Recirculation passages?

Leak down test will sort out if it’s head gasket failure.

Which App are you using with your bluetooth adapter? (some will use an App like Dr Prius or Hybrid Assistant)

Are there any warning lights being displayed on the dash?

The dealer want to replace the intake manifold and got a "pending misfire" code on #1. I got no actual mosfire codes myself. This is just them diagnosing with the code reader and running though some cycles including something with the TSB for the intake and forcing the EGR..... I thought the TSB for the intake manifold was just for rough start due to condensation. My car is 10 years old so why now? I worry they don't know what is wrong and this will not fix it.

Yes it the cooler was blocked quite a bit and I cleaned it out as well as the intake manifold last summer including those little passageways. I suppose one of those little passage ways could have gotten clogged after the fact.
