I've tried to find this unsuccessfully. When I tested the battery a few days after getting the battery installed Hybrid assist said that the starting SOC was 59 so I thought we should take a trip through the Mountains to make certain to recharge it well. We went about 248 miles and the highest amount shown was 65. I keep thinking that the replacement batteries should have at some time at least in that time gone much higher than that.

60 to 70% SOC is the normal target that the hybrid ecu tries to maintain. That gives a good amount of capacity to help power the car - say if you use heavy throttle all of a sudden to go up a steep hill. Yet it still leaves some "headspace" to accommodate some more regenerative braking, up to the maximum of 80% SOC.

Thanks for your input, so it seems that at some point the battery should have shown a much higher SOC during the trip we took is what I should have seen? Just trying to figure out if the battery he sold me is why i am having issues with the car electrical system shutting down now. it never did that before the replacement battery was installed.

The only reason that you should think that is if you had some nice long downhill sections where a higher than usual regeneration occurred. Otherwise, the 60-70% range, as mentioned by Mr_guy_man, is quite normal.
It is highly unlikely. See my post in your other thread.

Sounds about perfect. I imagine the battery indicator was showing about 6 bars most of the time. Right where the car likes it. As @dolj said, it'll go higher if you regenerate a lot on a long down hill. But then it'll use that up when you level out or go up hill.

As for the electrical shutting down, I see that you have another thread for that so I won't comment on it here so as to not get things all tangled up.

Thanks for the info, the thing was I took it through the Sunol grade, which is an extremely long downhill section and it seemed it should have had higher regeneration there and also on the way home pass the Altamont Pass. It did show slightly higher, but nothing into the 80% range ever on either grade downhill.

I am going to put the terminals back on from beginning to end as answered on the other thread, thanks for all the help. Nancy

Thanks, there were several long grades where i was watching closely, my husband was driving so I could see the results as we were driving, as for electrical, reconnecting 12v today.

I'm not sure which road you mean with the Sunol grade. If it's Hwy 84, that doesn't look steep at all. And I-680 only has a small drop of about 500 feet over a couple miles. If the descents aren't very steep, it will just reduce the amount of pedal pressure you apply and you get crazy-good gas mileage. Or, if it's steep enough, then it'll regenerate as you coast or drag the brake a little.

I would think that if you aren't getting any codes and lights, fuel economy is normal, and the car is running well, then all is well with the car.
