funny how he states that nimh has the same problems as nicad, when in fact the gen2 prius has been one of the most reliable cars on the road for almost 20 years, and the battery being a big part of it.

Saw that on a Facebook post, very nice upgrade indeed, but hard to tell its reliability at this point in the long run, and with genuine new batteries getting cheaper and more affordable, its a hard choice. Still nice to see people are making new parts for these 10+ year vehicles.

Unless I miss my guess, bisco was making a (somewhat flabby) pun.

Li-Po are safer than Li-Ion... If you have some links that say other otherwise please post them...

Maybe drive-up lipo is the way to keep clinics operating during a pandemic.

Thanks for the link... It proves my point. It says in that article: "Li-poly is safer, by comparison, which is particularly important in these days of super-fast charging technology. These batteries also have a very low self-discharge level, so won’t go flat when you’re not using them."

Lithium Polymers, especially with Iron, are the way to go. They are overall better for EVs (sweeping generalized statement I know) than anything else out there. You can also do lots of cool things with their anodes and cathodes with various materials to eek out more performance or life or other things. You can really fine tune the type of battery you want depending on the engineering on how it is going to be used allowing for excellent product experience and lifetimes.

One of the major BEV's I worked on was for a delivery truck (like the Brown men...) which had huge 100Ah LiFePO4 modules throughout the entire underside. It was an awesome vehicle.

And in a Prius it will work great when engineered to be in there. Toyota doesn't engineer the Prius G2 or G3 to use a lithium curve. There is a lot more to chemistry matching than physical form factor and v/i curves which even those haven't been met.

I am sure this battery will perform and sell well until the first few vehicles and homes go up in flames, and then bankrupt the company and founder. I've said my warning from a place of knowledge, and it is now up to them to either accept those risks or design it properly. The Gen2 and Gen3 Prius REQUIRES a new HV Battery ECU to be directly compatible which this product does not provide.

Am I understanding this right? Is this an OEM LiPoFE replacement battery (or maybe Li-ION as I didn't see any proof one way or the other)?

I'm getting near needing a new battery for my 2006. I've thought about doing a homemade LiPoFE replacement. But it seems it would be more work than what it's worth. But an OEM solution would be welcome for me! A third party LiPoFE battery might be acceptable for the right price too.

The one fear I have is that NiMH seems to withstand freezing temperatures just fine, but LiPoFE should not be used frozen. And I happen to live in a very cold climate. This would certainly need a battery heater to be useful for where I live.

just get another toyota battery for 10+ years, or toasters replacement.

lithium replacements are a long way off.
