To Buy A Prime or No?

    Yes, we have talked about doing an extended test drive. I think having driven a Prius before she knows what she would be getting into a bit, although I do feel the recent gen sits a bit lower (or should say the seat sits lower in the car ... if that makes sense?).

    We are kind of committed to reducing our expenditures on vehicles and the Prime would fit the bill there too ... especially if we can just go ahead and hang onto it for some time. Spending $75K on a Volvo that doesn't get driven a ton feels like a waste ... but as you guys are saying, sometimes if she likes it ... she likes it and you just gotta go with it.

    Yes the seats are mounted lower (especially the front passenger seat). The centre of gravity has been reduced on the Gen 4 (but I don’t know about the Prime since the battery is almost at the same height as the PiP).

    For me, this is the first time I’ve driven a Prius (or any car) with the seats at the lowest setting. I usually raise them for ease of exit but the position of the steering wheel and the sight lines at the seat height makes the Prime fun to drive. (As opposed to, say, the Gen 2 where it felt like you were perched on a high chair).

    I sold my '03 Prius last year; while it has the same ground clearance as a Prime, I would agree that the seat sits lower in the car. So I'm glad to be able to play around with the seat easily (it's easy to fiddle with at a stoplight or honestly even while driving in easy conditions). Here are the adjustments available for the driver, if you get the Advanced or Premium trim. (The air cushion thing is the "lumbar support.") The passenger just gets the manual seat.

    Anyway, I know the Prime isn't a "luxury" car, but I'm really enjoying mine so far! I find it stylish and unique compared to the majority of boring car designs on the road.

    Now to decide whether to buy now or wait until later in the year. I think we will go with Titanium Glow w Black interior. The exterior seems to be more important than the interior ... really didn't want the black interior but the closer I look at moonstone the less I like it. I had it in both of my 2010s though.

    We don't really NEED the car until October, but I don't know that I see the rebates in the northeast getting any larger than they currently are ... seems like a total of $5000 ($4000 + $1000 for financing) in New York and New Jersey is pretty darn good. Plus 0% financing seems a-OK as well, otherwise I'd pay cash I think.

    We have had too many white cars of late and classic silver is just a bit too plain ... feel like this car looks best in the lighter colors to my eye with the contrasting dark grille and floating rear design.

    If I understand it correctly, the current $1000 bonus cash offer in the Greater NY region is on the purchase or lease of a new 2021 Prius Prime financed through Toyota Financial Services. This can be combined with a $4000 cashback offer or a 0% APR financing offer from TFS. But $4000 cashback and 0% APR offers can not be combined. Similar is true for the current $4000 + $500 cashback offer and 0% APR offer in the NewEngland region.

    Thanks for sharing this. I had read some reviews but not actually the press release before. Coming off a Gen 1 to Gen 4, I've definitely noticed the better cornering and lower center of gravity (the '03 can "float" around the road during cornering). The Prime's nicer, stiffer ride is especially noticeable in Drive mode.

    We had a 2015 Prius and our new 2020 Prius Prime drives much nicer. Not that the previous car was bad but they have improved the ride quality and handling , noise, vibration and harshness to make the latest versions better than ever. For being a small mid priced car I am impressed.
