Strange Set if Codes on 2009 Prius

Which OBD2 scanner are you using to retrieve the above OBD2 codes (DTCs), please list the make/model or software App.

Not all scanners are toyota hybrid compatible, and many DIY mechanics prefer to use a "mini-vci" cable (20 usd) and techstream (dealer technician software) installed on a windows device. There are other scanner options as well. Best to locate a compatible scanner and post the retrieved OBD2 codes (DTCs) and any subcodes (INFs or 'detail codes') here for additional guidance.

This sounds like a HV battery ground leak (P0AA6), after resetting the 12v, you can only start the vehicle once, rinse and repeat.

Ran the car out of gas and the coolant control valve has failed.

Do you have the same stored codes (DTCs) still, or have they gone away after multiple power cycles?

Is the vehicle currently going into ready/starting and stopping again?

 

Do you have a DIY attitude and some tools, or will you be relying on others to tackle this problem?

 

The P1121 is a code for a problem with the coolant VALVE that controls flow to the heat storage tank (big thermos) in the left front corner of the engine bay. This is a common fault on a Gen2 and is comparatively irrelevant. It will cause the check engine light to come on but won't have any noticeable affect on how the car drives. Ignore it for now.
Your first concern should be figuring out the problem with the HV battery. Without that the car is dead and useless.

Florida is a decent sized state, which part are you near?

You might shop around, as my local dealer doesn't charge for diagnostics. You could purchase a large bag of "mini-vci" cables for that, or four (4) of the vxdiag versions of such, or two (2) Tactrix OpenPort if you wanted to support a local business.

Most would be under a minute, and techstream (the dealer technician software) could take a 2 mins depending on the scan.

 

Just focus on the HV battery issue.

Do you think you could install a new OEM battery from the dealership, a new quality aftermarket option, or possibly a low mile used battery from a recent wreck? (search for and watch a couple of different videos to get an idea of whats involved, overall fairly easy stuff)

If the answer is no, then you'll need to find a local mechanic to do the installation for you. Which metroplex is closest to you?

 

A useful experiment might be to peruse the repair manual looking for something easy to unplug or tweak that you know would trigger a particular HV ECU trouble code. Do that, wait for the warning triangle to come on, then check whether your OBD Lx scan tool is able to report the code that you know is there.

If it isn't, that would suggest better results from getting a different scan tool that can.

 

Did you use the new OBD2 device/app to scan the vehicle after the triangle reappeared?

Post the current OBD2 codes by scanning with the new OBD2 device/app now. (do this before anything else)

Will the vehicle start a 2nd time, or do you need to disconnect/reconnect the 12v to make it start? (possible DTC P0AA6 or P3009)

Wonder if you're not able to pull all of the DTCs (OBD2 codes) because of the OBD2 scanner App being used, and if trying a free/lite/paid version of Dr Prius (or Hybrid Assistant) might help, see if either App has a freeware version to test first. Remember that whenever you disconnect the 12v, this will erase the stored OBD2 codes (DTCs) until they're set/stored again in the future.

Either could offer a free diagnostic, or they will be way less than your stealership.

 

Doubtful if they make house calls, but they may know someone who does. Thinking 129usd for AAA would be a good investment now.
