The energy monitor in the gen3 is lame and boring, no doubt, but the car is superior to the gen 2 overall and by a reasonably large margin.

My comparisons of a 2005 Gen 2 (base) vs a 2010 Gen 3 (Four w/ advanced technology package) trying to ignore all the options as that induces a lot of bias. My 2010 is loaded and I really appreciate bluetooth, adaptive cruise, and the backup camera the most out of all the options.

    -Gen 2 Pros:
Rock solid reliability (just drive it, no need to worry about anything going wrong)
    Good fuel economy
I can sleep in the back with the rear seats folded down

    -Gen 2 Cons:
Can barely even tell if my headlights are on at night. They suck, and its dangerous.
    Very loud when climbing hills/mountains

    -Gen 3 Pros
    More power
    Great fuel economy
    Way better headlights
    Car looks more attractive
Seems a bit more stable and handles a little better
I can sleep in the back with the seats folded down
    Better energy monitor display

    -Gen 3 Cons
Piston ring and headgasget problems something you have to worry about
Engine still a bit louder than it could be under load

Give it some time, I still own and will always have a soft spot for gen2 but gen3 is definitely the better vehicle (with a few annoying issues) once you get used to it! at first i was not sure about my gen3 but now cant live without it!

Gliding is easy but manual! with the centre console and gear selector position, simply knock the car to N when you want to glide then back to D when needed..

have you compared glide w/neutral vs coasting on EV keeping speed?

Hey Grit, I know what you mean but I don't roll that way for a couple of reasons, firstly ev mode cuts out at about 40km/h and most speed limits around here are 50km/h or more, ev coasting is useful for switching off the ice however still requires energy from the traction battery for propulsion and that energy needs to be payed back at some stage! neutral gliding is effectively free travel, as such, if that makes sense ..
