thank you for reading and helping me out with this. I recently moved to California and surprise! in my first week, my catalytic converter was stolen from my 2006 Prius (125k miles). I have recently started dumping more money into this car -- just replaced an axle two weeks ago, and I am wondering if it's time to sell or scrap. I'm on a medium-tight budget, but I've been wanting a newer, used car for awhile, a little alarmed by how much my car struggles to accelerate and get up hills, as well as older age maintenance setting in. I have never scrapped or sold a car before, can anyone give advice? Thank you for your time!
no need to sell, it's a good car for someone, but will need a battery eventually, and possibly a brake actuator. a diy'er will make that car last a few hundred thousand miles for cheap, they are very desirablle in cali. on top of the, the cat is always a theft problem. in fact, they are probably watching and waiting for it to show up again. i would sell, and buy something thieves are not interested in.
If this is the case, you probably need a new HV (hybrid vehicle) battery now or in the very near future. The Prius shouldn't struggle to get up hills. Either that or you're not used to the higher revs due to the eCVT transmission but in any case, it should not lack power.
