That’s why I drive a 1981 Comutacar, because I can only drive beautiful cars and looks are all that matters

We will see what people do in 10 years when I get my Aptera parked next to the rows of hundreds of pickups

I always find the looks argument rather flat, there are many far uglier vehicles driving around, rusted out falling apart Dodge pickups and every crossover is eye bleedingly terrible to look at
but no one cares about those.

My go to for 20 years was to ask if a Prius driver stuck their hand out the window would it cause the car to turn. December 2019 I bought a first gen as an emergency fix to a blown up engine in our town and country. Took less than 2 weeks to realize the mpg read out was a video game that I had to get the high score on. (Btw high score for 400 miles was 61 mpg though 45 to 50 was the usual)

Unfortunatly the rockers are shot on my first gen and wont pass inspection so it will be going to the bone yard soon. Looking at a second gen now to replace the love of my life. Side note I have raced for 20 years so I think I qualify as a gear head. I am not a tree hugger, I hate liberals, and all hippies need locked in a padded cell. My wallet loves my Prius though so I love them also.

If you were nearby with photos, miles and a list of what’s done and not I’m sure $500 would drive it into a non-inspection state to continue driving with rusted out rocker panels

As much as the Prius will always be a funny looking car with a bad reputation, it’s also one of, if not THE most reliable car(s) on the road. And it has more room than you’d think, and the 2nd gen is ahead of its time technologically. So while the car is hated by many truck drivers, people who like to drive fast, political conservatives, and EV enthusiasts, it’s still an incredibly cost efficient, reliable, and practical car. And I’ll keep driving mine as long as I can.

    I agree; Nissan already took the name ‘Primera’ (for a similar reason - their first car made in Europe). Well Brexit lol anyway;

But according to my T friends at work your first statement makes you a hippy and a liar about your convictions .

no real .... cares about gas mileage or saving money. Real Americans only drive pickups with a gun at their side, deer rack in the back.

That mindset that I have to hate or love something unimportant because I’m told to in order to belong in a group is why I have no use for existing organizations, especially those that force tribalism using tired boring old tropes.

In the real world I have found it’s extremely rare I hate a person due to their beliefs but I do grow to hate certain useless behaviors, like behaving to match the expectations of a stereotype.

The odd part is I am far more conservative than every current party goer I have met but my beliefs on the role of conservation and government in other matters put me firmly in the other side of the fence.

I dated a hippy girlfriend for a while, she was very conservative in many ways but likewise had a dichotomy about how she lived portions of her life and her views of what government should be for others

    Good points made.
This is my philosophy. There is a finite amount of petroleum left. So... the less I used the more will be available for Camero and Truck usage. in a way the more Prius drivers there are, the longer you will be able to drive your truck.

This will change a bit when all the EV pickup trucks that are promised in the next 5 years hit the market. Though arguably an EV truck will have its range vastly diminished when used as a towing vehicle (mainly an aero issue), for that reason fossil trucks will be around for a long time until battery technology catches up, but will slowly have their market share taken up more and more by pure EV trucks.

My understanding is that the amount of proven fossil fuel reserves are now several times greater than what we can 'safely' dump into the atmosphere. Burning all the known fossil fuels in open air would push the CO2 concentration up into the several-thousand-ppm range, beyond all geological history and well beyond all indoor health codes.

Thus, absent very major application of carbon capture and sequestration, fossil fuels are limited not by supply, but instead by where we can dump the exhaust.

We all know what the Prius is, here on PC . It sounds like we are all trying to convince ourselves. Why is that.

The main put down over here is a plug in hybrid v full EV. My gen 2 has a 10kWh battery in the spare wheel well that we charge direct from solar on the roof of the house, so completely free fuel. It will only do 80km/h (52mph) on pure electric and around 100km (60 miles) before the extended range battery is flat, but the drive from home to work is max 80km/h and 50km/h through town, that's fine for us.
The pay back put down I won against the pure EV people at the last electric vehicle association meeting was "I don't suffer range anxiety, @ 110km/h (70mph) I have a range of around 800km, around town my best so far is 1800km for 40 ltrs of fuel, the solar was free, how does you $86,000 plus EV stack up against my $6,500 second hand Prius? Seems to stop them dead in their tracks
As far as slow, with the extended range battery fully charged, not many can keep up on the climb out of the Adelaide Hills (long steep climb) and the combined 120kW from virtually standing still makes the Prius really quick off the lights and overtaking trucks and car/caravan convoys that clog up the roads around these parts  The extended range battery does add weight, but the extra performance with the traction battery always above the green bars on the display more than makes up for it

Didn’t know range extender battery was a thing otherwise I would have bought one years ago. Is it only available in the US?

They were a 'thing' years ago (2012-ish) but I haven't seen many kits for G3s or G4s.

They were expensive and these days there are PHEVs available commercially.
