Should I buy a 2015 Prius 2?

Seems a bit high for a damaged car, but I don't know the market in your part of the country.

 

WAY too high! Go to Kelly blue book and get a price from that.

 

Pre certified owned will always be a few grand more expense than private, some are willing to pay a higher price because it passes X numbers of point inspection “minimize” potential underlying car issues after you drive away from the lot. And most turd gen prius I’ve seen CPO are in pristine condition.

look into the prius prime. new ones in md are netting out between 14 an 18k

 

Just helped advise someone on a first Prius purchase and after a week of searching and trying all the different Prius they settled on a 2017 Prius Prime for $18K out here in the greater Seattle area where Prius prices are high. Seems like they got a great deal and won't have to worry about car problems till the mid 2030's

 

and you don’t even need to have a single reason to under the hood once!

 

Actually, regular cleaning under the hood is essential to solving any issue before it gets worse. And maybe an oil change for the little used engine once a year would be wise too.

 

Bearing in mind that this is just an opinion, No. If bisco can point you at a new Prime for $14-18k then that is a much better deal. If you decide to buy the 2015 buy it only if the seller replaces the bumper, and you and your trusty mechanic can watch and look for hidden damage underneath it. New is better because in theory no-one has had much chance to abuse the car. It's a lot of work and effort to get the best price on new - there is a great thread here (sorry I don't have the link) with guys using TrueCar, signing up as Uber drivers, etc to get a really good price - but if you have the time and energy you avoid taking over someone else's problem, and if you negotiate a free rental car along with any warranty and free service work, then you're golden. And don't let them sell you any bs extras - like undercoating, extended maintenance, etc. If you decide on the 2015 anyway, insist on the same - free loaner car, free fix/replacement of the bumper, new tires, new 12V battery, free full size spare wheel and tire, free new windshield wipers, free maintenance as spelled out in "maintenance required" in the owner's manual for 5 years, all transferable when/if you sell (you won't get it all, but try) . At some point it's worth it. But be aware that once you drive off the lot, the seller won't be one tenth as nice as before you paid!

 

Matching paint bumper covers on Ebay cost less than $300 and take an hour or so to swap out...

 

wow, that's high. Well, the 2015 is the better one to get, or newer.
But you need to get what you can afford, that's most important.
Be paitent, and wait, one will come along.

 

there is no link. there is a thread on prime purchase price. koons is supposed to be a pretty good one.
don't get confused between toyota rebate and dealer discount. i'm reading up to 9k off plus the fed tax credit and you are around 18k. some have done better, but it is all about timing and finding the right dealer.
in the end, if 15k is the best you can find on a used prius, it is a very good car with just a question as to whether the updated pistons and rings solved the egr/blown headgasket problem

Good luck with this search. It's no walk in the park. Be patient, don't fall in love with any particular car. It's very helpful if you can find someone who is local to you and knows and works on these cars. Don't let sales people at dealerships get you down. Remember "it's better to miss the boat than to lose money", so if someone says "it won't last" don't take the bait. By all means check out a few cars, and then go home after saying you'll think about it.

 

^^^this^^^ and finding a hybrid mechanic before you need one is very important. dealers are mostly a ripoff.
