I have a 2008 prius and just had oil overfill from a toyota dealership. How soon after can car experience damage or problems from this? What should I have dealer look at? Next time i started the car it had start problem and started shaking. Turned car off after about 10 seconds. restarted ok. Driven it just a few times since, nothing noticeable.
Heard older priuses more than others can experience oil getting into the manifold from oil pulling into the PVC system and clogging up areas even on slight overfills causing cold start problems, misfirings, lower MPG because of the spinning at very high speeds 800 to 1200 rpm compared to conventional cars that average typically 200 to 300 rpm
What areas should I ask dealer to investigate? Can i safely drive to dealer across town or tow? I dont feel safe trying to remedy myself or investigate if any damage has occurred. Please advise me, thanks!

First check the oil dip stick in the morning before you start it.

Take a picture or the dip stick to prove to them where the level is.

Then once you take it back to them and have them drain the extra oil, have them pour it in a different container for you.
You can take your own oil jug/pan.
They most likely will not want to do all this.
When they ask questions say you need to test the oil and want to know exactly how much oil was put in.

Stand there and watch them drain it.

If you have roadside assistance or free towing, I would tow it there since it looks bad to them and it will keep all the oil in the pan versus driving it there and the oil is not all in the pan when you have them look at it.

    ^ Plus one.

How much is it overfilled, as shown on the dipstick?

distance between the high and low marks represents 1.6 qts (1.5 litres) IIRC.

My local shop(once trusted!) did that too! I end up sucking out a half qt out of oil dipstick hole. I should changed the oil by myself...was too lazy....

1/2 qt/ltr overfill won't hurt anything. It's the not checking the level regularly and extended oil changes that hurt the Prius.
