Catalytic-converter thefts up in Puget Sound area: ‘It’s a stubborn crime,’ police say

“From May 2019 to April 2020, we had 16 claims related to catalytic-converter thefts. One year later during the same period (May 2020 to April 2021) the number of claims went up to 361, a 2,156% increase,” said Derek Wing, a spokesperson for Seattle-based PEMCO Insurance."

"Priuses and V-10 Ford trucks are the vehicles hit most often in King County, but others have been targeted as well, said [KCSO Sgt. Tim] Meyer."

"Know if you’re a target — Toyota Priuses, trucks and SUV’s, which are easier for thieves to slide under, are the primary targets in Tacoma."
