Commute is 14 miles. Google says 26 minutes right now but likely worse during rush hour.

Try the 2021 Elantra if she likes her 2013 one - they've improved out of sight (or the KIA equivalent).

The thing about driving a Manual - which I'd love again - as we age, they become less "practical". I know 2 couples who bought lovely Manuals in their 60s'70s - and then discovered - in one case a hip issue on the clutch foot side, the other just realised after a couple of years - "I should have got the Auto my kids wanted me to".

    What about a Veloster N?

Depends on the wiggle room in the budget; it starts at $32,250. If hot hatches are an option, there is the Golf GTI and Civic Type R.

If we were looking for just a car we would definitely consider another Elantra. They were especially cute IMHO from 2012 to 2016. Fluidic Sculpture they called it. In 2017 they got really boring by comparison. The current model looks better to my eye but we are most likely looking for something with a little more pizzazz.

The Sonata is boring but a step up in luxury.

I don't care for the way the Veloster looks but I'll see what my wife thinks.

Both Elantra and Sonata are available in N Line models if you want pizzazz. They're more dress-up (think "SE" or "S" in Toyota speak). The Veloster N is an actual performance model.

I second the Golf GTI or even Golf R. Civic Type R might be a bit too brash but I don't know you or your wife personally so I can't say for sure.

There are trust issues with VW and I don't think the Golf is very cute.

Chevy and Tesla are not super reliable.

I trust Toyota, Mazda, Honda and Hyundai/Kia. Nissan not so much. I despise Nissan's CVT but a Z would look nice in the driveway.

The 2022 Elantra N might be the car. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Side note:

At one time I was VW gaga and wanted a Scirocco. The VW Cabriolet Convertible was my dream car.

Their old Diesel mini truck and more current emissions/mileage scandal have me unimpressed.

How about a Subaru BRZ / Toyota 86?

Same on VW's emission history, but that Golf is generally considered a fun car to drive.

& the DSG. You wouldn't want to keep one for too long. Brother just paid $1950 on his - that's after VW had done a major repair 3 yrs before "free".

That's if she'd drive a DSG - they're an acquired taste - which I decided I didn't want to acquire - and certain my wife would have tossed the keys back to me.

    Maybe,

The torque is low on those but my wife might not care.

We are going to test drive a bunch of cars, including the BRZ/86.

Holy cow! Since when does the Sonata Hybrid match the Camry Hybrid for mileage? I've been out of the loop!

Sonata N might do the job as well. That would be a step up in luxury and performance as well. Looks like there is some confusing terminology between Kia/Hyundai N, N-line, and GT, and GT -line, where GT can mean hatchback or turbo. I'm a bit confused.

I buy as much on new features and "its different" than on sportiness these days. Grand Caravan to Porsche Boxster S to Prius v to Rav4h. Each step it was the driver features and displays' differences that made the change interesting.

If I buy another (and I've begun lobbying) it will be an EV.

    Since the current gen actually.

Well N and GT are Hyundai’s and Kia’s performance trim levels (the “go fast” bits). N Line and GT Line are their sport appearance models.

Yep - had a glance at one recently (the KIA) - my neighbour just bought a GT Line. She said it's got much more grunt than anything she's driven before, loving it - but it's both luxury and restrained sporty, not an out-and-out track-day car like say, the Hyundai "N".

Did you guys get the new KIA logo? I see most places have the stainless steel or aluminium emblem with the new logo design but I caught a glance at a video (that I think originated in Australia) on the refreshed Stinger and it appeared that that car still had the old logo.

Yep - it's been in the press - and I just checked KIA Australia website. I think it's unfortunate wording "SOON TO BE UNLEASHED" - hope it isn't a Dog of a Car.
