Edit: US specs in post #12

I'm surprised there isn't more talk about this, especially since it'll be launched in "select global markets" in the second half of 2021. (US launch is expected to be early 2022).

The hammer drop is the EV6 GT, with Model 3/Y Performance rivalling numbers (0-62mph in 3.5 secs, 800V charging that adds 62 miles in < 5 minutes)

    • Towing capacity of 1,600kg/3,500lbs
    • 162hp to 577hp versions in RWD and AWD, 446-538lb-ft
    • SR: 58kWh net, LR: 77.4kWh net
    • Sized between a Sportage and Sorento
    • V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) output up to 3.6kW - capable of charging other EVs
    • 520 litres VDA cargo (18 cu. ft.) seats up
    • 20L/0.7 cu. ft. (AWD) or 51L/1.8 cu. ft (RWD) frunk/froot. (20L/0.7cu. ft. on all North American models AWD or RWD)
    • 400V or 800V charging up to 350kW (standard feature)
    • 10%-80% in 18 minutes for all versions
    • Heat pump allows the EV6 to maintain 80% of its range (based on 25°C/77°F temp) at -7°C/19°F
    • More than 510 km/318 miles range (WLTP) (so I estimate 400 km/250 mi EPA)

i suppose because there have been so many failed tesla competitors.

talk will probably pick up if they actually make one that lives up to the hype.

not a bad looking car though

Yeah, it's a good-looking BEV. I like the style more than any Tesla. But I doubt there will be any in stock near Kia dealers around me. And even if they could order one for me, it will be waay above my budget for a daily driver.

It's a slightly different version of the Ioniq 5. Both are pretty interesting compared to any Tesla since both have options, dashes and HUDs and are built by a company that usually builds decent cars. Might be expensive though, but the charging speed is superior even to a V3 Supercharger charging a new Model 3. I'd like to know how they accept so much charge so fast - cooling, fast charge cells or a little of each?

Yeah. The Ioniq 5 is targeting luxury and comfort (with the fold-out leg support/ottoman for both front seats and sliding front centre console) while the EV6 is targeting the sporty market. (Supposedly there's a Genesis version that'll target the luxury-sport market).

Well I suspect the base model will start near US$40k (the question is which battery size will start at $40k - the 58kWh or the 77.4kWh?). The EV6 GT will definitely be in Mustang Mach-E GT and TMY-P territory (but maybe knock off $2-4k).

I like it...but any idea on price? If they price it higher than a Tesla Model 3...I think they'll have problems. It has to be presented as a 'good value' vs. a Tesla.

With that said, our Hyundai vehicles have been super solid. Kia is pretty much Hyundai with a different skin...so I feel good about that.

Edit : found this in one of the articles :

"The GT is the top trim, but not everyone needs that much performance. The base model is named EV6 and should start around $56,000, while the middle-trim GT-Line will start around $60,000. Both have two battery choices, a 58-kWh power supply suitable for 230 miles of range and a 77.4-kWh unit that will go 316 miles using the European math. The shorter range models come with a 167-hp motor in rear-drive form and 231-hp for all-wheel-drive models. The longer-range EV6 and GT-Line in rear-wheel-drive form get a 225-hp motor, while AWD models get a 320-hp motor connected to both axles.

In GT trim, the EV6 will be around $80,000 and only comes with the larger battery and all-wheel-drive. The motors generate 576-hp, 538-lb-ft of torque, and you'll need something like a McLaren 570S to take it off the line."

Uhh....yikes? Sorry, not for me at that price. I think many folks get interested in the new EVs coming out...until they see the price. Frankly, we need affordable EVs before they are ever going to 'take over'...

Edit #2 : Thankfully, some of the comments in the article said the pricing in the article is way off on the high side..so I guess we wait for official pricing.

Those dollar values look like Canadian pricing. I would guess CAD$80k as well for the GT (basically whatever Mustang Mach-E GT and Model Y Performance would cost in the US and maybe subtract a couple of thousand).

Which means the base RWD EV6 should be in the neighbourhood of $40k-45k USD for the 77.4kWh unit. (Basically, similar to the recently announced ID.4 Pro RWD)

The ID.4 Pro is priced at CAD$44,995 with the ID.4 AWD Pro starting at $49,995. No surprise since the federal EV rebate (point of sale) is capped at $45,000 for the base price of the vehicle, with trim levels not exceeding $55,000 (except 7-pass or more, <$55,000 for the base MSRP and no more than $60,000 for other trim levels. Options/packages are excluded from this limit).

So I suspect Kia will want to price this below CAD$45,000. Currently, the Kona and Niro EV are priced at $44,995 base (Soul EV Premium base is $42,995 but that's because it has a smaller battery). Kona Ultimate, Niro EV SX Touring and Soul EV Limited priced closer to $52,000.

I watched it live. I was not expecting the 300 mile target (especially since the WLTP target was 319 miles)

Yeah... $58K and maybe premium added if you don't reserve it now. Swiftly off the shortlist for my next car selection.
