In a bid to offer the most comprehensive lineup of trucks in the automotive business, Fordunveiled its highly anticipated 2022 Maverickon Tuesday. With a unique blend of versatility, fuel efficiency and bargain-basement pricing, this compact, unibody-based pickup could revolutionize the US truck segment when it goes on sale later this year.

TL;DR: The 2022 Ford Maverick offers up to 40 miles per gallon from its standard hybrid powertrain, which is priced from $21,490 ($19,995 MSRP plus $1,495 for destination). That's some thrifty running. Need more? Keep reading, friends.

Sounds good on paper, I’m skeptical on the price?

That price is right up my alley if true.

Little disappointed on 400 watt AC outlet. The Toyota Sienna gets 1500 watt and the Ford F-150 hybrid gets 7200 watt. I would think the Maverick could do 1100 watt.

"...this vehicle is designed to appeal to small-car buyers, people who never knew they wanted a pickup..."
I remember when the original Ranger was canceled, Ford basically said people buying the truck would be fine with a small car instead.
Sounds like that outlet is in the bed regardless of drive train

Yeah, at this starting price and mpg, if it comes in a standard 2 seaters with a long bed like Ford Ranger once did, then I am sold. I never need the power of the F150. I equally do not need seating for five for a pick-up truck. The ability to be able to place an 8x4 plywood flat on the bed is far more important than having extra doors and seats.

Although I always wanted a pick-up truck, I have never owned one. Back when I was looking for my daily driver I did think about getting Dakota. I went to look at a brand new Dakota at a Dodge dealer, and I found a used Honda Civic on a lot and bought it instead. LOL

when we had a minivan for the kids, i would use it for remodeling projects and etc.

of course, we couldn't wait to ditch it, and i was hauling a lot of stuff in sedans.

then i stumbled onto a used ranger cheap. it became clear after awhile that it was more useful than we realized, but too small.
now, the dakota hardly gets used, and people borrow it way more than we need it, so we'll probably part company in the near future.

Same here. I traded my first-generation 2 door Pathfinder for a 7 seater Quest minivan to haul kids. Ever since, my wife always liked driving a minivan, even after kids are grown up. We went through 4 minivans in total. The last one Sienna was used more like a cargo van. The second-row seats were always in the garage and third-row seats were stowed under deck. On occasion we needed more than two seats, the third-row seats were easy enough to pup up and rear passengers had very good legroom. LOL. Now we no longer need a people hauler, we switched from Sienna to the fourth generation Pathfinder Hybrid to complete the circle. But my wife misses a minivan. I also miss the cargo space of an empty minivan. We are seriously thinking to switch the Pathfinder Hybrid to Pacifica Hybrid Plug-in. I thought about the new Toyota Sienna hybrid, but the second-row seats are not removable on the new Sienna, which is a deal-breaker for me. If this Ford Maverick comes with a long bed, I would seriously consider it as our cargo hauler.

Yup, single cab with a six foot bed and I’d be sold too. I have a Tacoma double cab long bed and rarely have anything in the back seat except for my lunch and workout gear. I was bummed when the manufacturers discontinued the “small” truck.

remember the 70's, when pickups are single cab, manuals, and barely got 16 mpg ?

this is a quad cab, air conditioned, 4,000lb towing rig that gets 38ish mpg !

well at least they're claiming 38ish in the city, highway will suffer

The Tacoma is now the size of our 2000 Tundra. They upsized the tundra to compete against the F250 and upsized the Tacoma to compete against the F150.

    2 door
    Bench seat
    Long box

is the only way I would buy this,

also a proper 5mt would likely get identical highway MPGs and avoid the extra hybrid taxes

The hybrid is rated for 2000lbs, and appears to be FWD only.

Exactly! This could be the resurgence of the 'affordable' pickup truck...like the Ranger. I have a special fondness for the ranger....they were built in St Paul, MN...around the area where I grew up.

Twin Cities Assembly Plant - Wikipedia

If they can hit the 20K price, decently equipped, I'm super interested in it. Knowing Ford though...the 20K is probably a 'dangle the carrot' tactic. I bet there will be 1000 options. If not, then good on Ford!

Edit : Looks like only 3 trim levels...with every option at the highest trim it apparently tops out around 38K.

Our Ranger had manual windows, which meant manual side mirrors. That got old when sharing the truck with another driver.

Each business has to separate itself from other businesses by doing something a little bit different. Had they put a 50 amp 30 amp and 20 amp outlets offering at least 5 kW straight off the motor generator this truck would have been killer for work sites because it would have been a hybrid generator. It would have been the most portable quietest most efficient generator available.

oof, their marketing gurus slipped one by me... or I wasn't paying attention.

I'm fixing my earlier post... but still waiting to hear about a diesel hybrid pickup that gets 60 mpg ;-)

I'm not an experienced plywood hauler. What's the big deal about hauling it on the floor?

This 4-door shortie bed hauls plywood flat (that part makes sense to me) but it rides on the tops of the wheel wells. Why would it have to be on the floor?

I had a '94 Ranger and it was a fine; my only complaint was that it depreciated much faster than any other vehicle I've ever bought and sold.
