The other day I went to drive my prius and the red triangle of death popped up after moving a few feet, once it popped up I put it in park and couldn't get it out. I tried jumping the car but nothing changed. I'm new to hybrid cars so I'm unsure of what could be causing this. If included pictures below of the pop ups I am getting... again I'm not sure whats causing this so any suggestions would help. 20210609_194647.jpg 20210609_194623.jpg

Looking at the picture of your MFD, it appears the HV battery SOC is down to one bar.

Generally, when you have warning light/symbols displayed on the dash, you will have OBD2 codes (DTCs) stored in the ECUs. Find, buy, or borrow a hybrid compatible OBD2 scanner (try all of the auto parts chains, each location likely offers a different loaner, and one might be a toyota hybrid compatible scanner) to retrieve these codes, many prefer a mini-vci cable with techstream installed on a windows device, others might get by with just an OBD2 bluetooth adapter and an App like Dr Prius or Hybrid Assistant, some might use Torque.

Once you have the codes (DTCs), post them in this thread for additional guidance.

Texas is a decent sized state, which metroplex is closest to you?

Probably the hybrid battery has failed especially if it’s the original.
Probably the reason car was sold to begin with. That and it’s a little oil eating monster don’t know as no mention of miles on the car.

very very common on this vintage car. use search forums link up top and search

    hybrid battery

to see what thousands of people have gone through. And Go on YouTube search

    hybrid battery

hundreds of videos on howto repair or replace it. While on YouTube also search

    Prius stolen

which will give you info on your next nightmare the stolen catilytic converters
You have lots of reading to do. Good luck.

A mere teenager of a Gen 2 prius.

You're always so full of doom and gloom. Lighten up a bit....

Ohh, right. Forgot that "the engine's blown". From the years of dealer techs grossly over filling the crankcase with the worst dino-oil on the planet.

How long have you had the car? Are you a DIY'er, do you have the tools and a place to work on it? Per post #2, your going to need at least a OBD2 bluetooth adapter and an App, to see what's actually going on with the car.

And the Gen 2's, have the little engine that could, if it was running fine before, I'll be running fine again. :)

Sorry it took so long, however I had to get the money to get the scanner, but luckily I found that the two codes I had were a c1253 and a c1241 I've had experience with mechanical cars before but this is my first hybrid so all the electronics can be daunting. And since the 1241 code is related to the ecu I'm not sure where even to begin

I'm not shy to mechanic work as I've gotten other vehicles running from sitting 2 years, however this is my first hybrid and I'm in uncharted territory, I know enough to know that I shouldn't mess with something electrical I don't understand and am trying to figure out exactly what the issue is before I make it worse

Which scanner did you purchase, and is it also capable of retrieving the INF codes (aka subcodes, detailed codes) for a DTC?

Notice in the workup for DTC C1253 (below), that there are seven (7) related "detailed codes" or INFs (aka sub-code, info code, secondary code). You may need an OBD2 device that can provide you with the needed INF to help narrow down the issue (many will use a mini-vci cable and techstream for retrieving these subcodes), knowing the INF may help with diagnosing the problem in a timely fashion, without wasting labor time or money on unneeded parts. Not all DTCs have INFs.

Here is the workup for DTC C1253 : https://share.qclt.com/%E4%B8%B0%E7%94%B0%E6%99%AE%E7%91%9E%E6%96%AF%E5%8E%9F%E5%8E%82%E8%8B%B1%E6%96%87%E6%89%8B%E5%86%8Cpdf%E6%A0%BC%E5%BC%8F/repair%20manual/04pruisr/05/21avn/cic12525.pdf

Here is the work up for DTC C1241 : https://share.qclt.com/%E4%B8%B0%E7%94%B0%E6%99%AE%E7%91%9E%E6%96%AF%E5%8E%9F%E5%8E%82%E8%8B%B1%E6%96%87%E6%89%8B%E5%86%8Cpdf%E6%A0%BC%E5%BC%8F/Prius%20Service%20Manuals%202004/%E4%BF%AE%E7%90%86%E6%89%8B%E5%86%8C/04pruisr/05/21avn/cic12414.pdf

You will notice that there are four (4) INFs for DTC C1241, which may help narrow done the problem.

Did the 12v go low from sitting or while working on the vehicle, and what does it currently measure using a voltmeter at the jump points?
