    Can an old-style plow tractor, like the one in your picture, be used as a front loader? My garden is mostly a no-till garden in a wooded lot. My need is mostly moving mulching materials. A huge amount of decaying trees, branches, leaves to compost. A front loader-type Bobcat can also be used for snow plowing.

    So I made a couple comments in the YouTube comment section of this video saying I'm pretty excited about it. Guess what? I got berated by a "compensating for something truck guy". I suppose they are in a tiff because this is a hybrid and not a "real man's truck" ‍o_O. I wonder if they will coal roll a truck like this? Oh bless their hearts...the mental gymnastics they must be going through. ‍:whistle: These "truck guys with ego" are some strange creatures...

    Four time truck owner, I’ve been wanting and asking for a small, light duty hybrid truck since about 2010.

    “Reserved” a fully loaded Lariat hybrid in Area 51 paint for $32k last night as weekday commuter and weekend worker. We’ll see....... :whistle:

    "Technically speaking, the Maverick's motor is an internal permanent-magnet reluctance design. It places magnets in V-shaped slots that help maximize magnetic attraction at some angles and minimize it (maximizing reluctance) in others. This is the type of motor Tesla employs on the rear of its Model 3 Performance and in the Raven setups in Model S and Model X Performance and Long Range models.

    The rotor in this new 2022 Ford Maverick motor hides its magnets in double-V slots as opposed to single-Vs in the previous motor (which still powers the Escape Hybrid). This design uses more and smaller batteries, and they're all molded in place during the manufacturing process. The previous design glued the magnets in after the rotor's manufacture. The molded-in magnets can tolerate much higher rotating speed, and although the Maverick doesn't take advantage of this capability, we expect to see all-new hybrid systems designed to use this motor that will indeed do so.

    The new 2022 Ford Mavericks use a 27-kW, 1.1-kWh battery pack that's essentially the same as the one used in the current Escape Hybrid. However, the battery's power delivery is tuned a little bit differently to suit the pickup truck's unique power demands. Ford builds these batteries in Rawsonville, Michigan, just east of Ann Arbor."

    Nice. That would work for a snow plow. It may be hard to lift logs and move around though. What I really want is actually a back-hoe loader that can both dig and move the earth. But that would even more expensive than a small front loader.

    I have never seen it until now. Yeah, looks compact enough for my need. Not sure how well it will maneuver in the woods. Still, I wonder how much they cost.

    the amount of time that pickups are driven with nothing in the bed is wild. look at how many pickups have zero scratches/dents in the bed.... without the bed liners !

    you can have A LOT OF CRAP DELIVERED for what pickups cost now.

    Not much interest in trucks these days 'eh? ;)

    While it's true that the napkin drawing department at FoMoCo is doing some really good work lately, they seem to be offering steak-sized sizzle for a hamburger product.
    First of all, the Ford's not-a-truck really is.......a truck despite the Dodge D-50-sized engine, the unit-body construction, and the 3/4-scale crew cab layout. Even a 4.5' bed is......a bed.
    If it looks like a duck...

    It's not a < $25,000 truck YET because, like Tesla, GM, Yota, and the other bigs, they're gonna sell up-optioned, non-discounted models to early adopters FIRST and then get the fleet units out to medium sized companies.

    They're not going to be used by delivery companies.
    Ford has another under powered, FWD, unit-body constructed, not-quite-a-truck product for that..... Ford Transit - Wikipedia

    If Ford built a single cab, unibody, fwd, truck-bed equipped vehicle with crank windows, a manual transmission, and not very many other options then they would sell a bunch of them, BUT the profit margin for each would necessarily be a lot less than their $25,000 pony truck and it would probably not be as fuel efficient, which would hit them in their CAFE budget - which (thank GOD!) isn't under further attack at the moment - BUT - the folks at the Blue Oval company aren't dumb!

    With the demise of the $19,999.99 famously Spartan base model Frontier, the cheapest truck now available in North America (according to C&D) is..........(wait for it!)...........a Toyota!
    The 2021 good-luck-finding-one base model Tacoma goes for $25,600 plus D,TTL.
    I don't count the Maverick (at $21,490 plus D,TTL) because it's not 2022 yet.

    All of this means that there is no such thing as a <$20,000 truck, and lots of factors might just keep it that way for a while.....or?
    Somebody might figure out that if there's a market for a $15,000 car in America then there might also be one for a < $20,000 truck.

    Meanwhile?
    People who do not live in cities and have a need for a WORK truck can always count on the massive depreciation in $40,000 pickup trucks and STILL have a fairly dependable $20,000 truck that they're not afraid to get a little mud on!

    When the dangle is a sub-$20k BEV with a big-3 warranty behind it, a lot of people will look past the form factor.

    They could have styled it like a pallet of houseplants and received the same positive response.

    I think @Trollbait covered it back in post 4... it's a vehicle for people who might be okay with a small car, and might be okay with a small truck. The form factor isn't driving the demand, at least not nearly as hard as the price & brand familiarity.

    Actually I'm thinking that the skateboard layout would lend itself quite well to a small truck - but yeah.
    That's why they used Tesla-like advertising and created a lot of clicks for their $22,000 "sub $20,000" truck.
    Excellent point about the "Big-3" support.
    It's not as much the warranty as the logistics.
    Insurance companies pay attention to stuff like that when cell phone queens and GPS jocks turn cars into used parts.

    Still waiting for a <$35,000 BEV that doesn't require fuzzy math or rich-folk welfare.....

    Ok boomer buzzkill boy ( or whatever group you identify with )....:whistle: The fact remains that this is a very, very enticing package when you consider the price of trucks these days. Stop arguing the 'under 20K' thing...the argument doesn't hold water.

    There is plenty of market out there for unibody trucks...sorry if you don't think they are a 'real mans truck'...haha. Heck, a lot of us use our Prius vehicles as a 'truck'. (y) I think this fills a huge market need. And it even has piqued interest in some ardent Prius fans....blasphemy! :ROFLMAO:

    And there are plenty of folks ordering base models...look out there in the Ford forums. You do have a point though....it remains to be seen how fast the base model orders will fill. Heck, how fast *any* model will fill for that matter. I suspect Ford is getting more orders than anticipated...but I did read they are targeting around 150K units a year. So they at least somewhat planned for the demand.

    In fact....I own 2 unitbody SUVs and would happily buy a not-a-truck, truck TODAY if the price were right....or a time-capsule D-50.

    What I actually SAID was that there IS a market, and it's not being satisfied.

    What FoMoCo DID was take a Honda Ridgeline, cut the price in half, reduce the dependability by an order of magnitude, and lie about the baseline price - call it a "new" thing............AND (apparently) get away with it.

    Found this video...looks pretty capable to me. Clearance looks pretty good. However, I'd wager this is the 4WD version (?).



    Looks pretty close to the type of thing I want...'light duty' on dirt roads with a few minor ruts, etc...in the slickrock area of Utah.

    Edit : I was able to find the dealer 'esourcebook' PDF. However, each page is stamped with "maverick truck club". Are we allowed to post stuff like this?
