Relevance? With ~600,000 killed in just over the past year, does it matter that much if it was 2% or just 0.5% of the infected? Either way, it is still a catastrophe that killed ~600,000 and left many more with serious long lasting complications. That side of the pandemic is far more important than a precise accounting of the number of minor and asymptomatic cases.
    Now. This month.
We know approximate local vaccination rates from the state and county health department figures. There haven't been enough doses administered to cover the eligible, and many more are still ineligible, so when I'm out in public (beyond my social friendship circles, e.g. when shopping) numerous others nearby must be unvaccinated.
That sounds like a quite cold hearted response to the health and welfare of the general public community.

Though my risk after vaccination is sharply reduced, especially for severe cases, the virus is still running around and I can still catch it. As my elderly Aunt did, two months after being fully vaccinated. Fortunately, she survived, never getting seriously ill.

If we can still catch it, then we can also still pass it along. The transmission rate among the vaccinated should be well below self sustaining chain reaction replication rates that keep epidemics going, but likely still allows them to transfer the disease to the pockets of unvaccinated folks.

When the vaccinated people quit taking precautions, so will/did many of the vaccine resistors and those not yet eligible. Which is part of the reason for the surge in illness and hospitalization of young people.

yes, it matters. that's why we're counting things: so we can get an idea of how bad/important a thing is.

I disagree, and think we squandered our opportunity to explore all of our reporting/recording/computing power that was available. we could have done massive amounts of research, if we had reliable numbers. the simple fact that the numbers are so questionable and variable ( 3% vs .5% is a huge range) is a decent example of inconsistencies and illogical reporting.

It looks like just a single typo, QUITE instead of QUOTE.
There were numerous stumbles, a botched test rollout caused very serious tracking delays, severe political disagreements interfered with the responses, etc. But that uncertain per-case death rate figure is still less important than the final per-capita death toll.
All those combined -- PLUS all the annual deaths from motor vehicles, guns, alcohol, and illegal drug abuse combined -- don't add up to the deaths caused by this virus. Compared to this virus, every single item there is 'low' risk.
Getting to a naturally acquired herd immunity in the U.S., through having the disease instead of mass vaccination, was going to require killing about 1 million to 2 million more people.

Don't forget these same folks are hot to blame the Chinese virus lab for the infection.

Gonna disagree with you there Bisco. People say they want the truth. But most will only accept the truth if it proves them right.

i'm thinking between vaccinations, previous infections and those who are too young to be immunized,
we're already at herd immunity except for some specific locations

If I remember right, there was once a PC member who had been around for years and posted tons of useful information, got disenchanted with the forum for some reason, and before leaving, went through and blanked out all of his or her hundreds of useful former postings.

    your papers please.

    just doing my job.

    following orders.

    etc

if the vaccinations are so important and work so well, why does anyone need to teach your activities and see your credentials to enjoy an outside event ?
