Might be the VIN I posted above. That’s from the TSB for oil consumption: you need an earlier VIN to qualify for the piston/ring replacement (plus low enough miles), so seems plausible.

I have a lead on a 2012 Prius C two with only 60K miles. Unfortunately, no backup camera.

Any idea how/where to add one?

    Replace head unit (Crutchfield?)
When BIG Bell started buying those annoying little Hello Kitty vans, our technicians started hitting stuff while backing up more often, and so they authorized supervisors and technicians to backfit these cars with "proper" backup cams, as opposed to the compliance units that fit inside a rear-view-mirror.
This often requires a head unit replacement....something than became quite popular since newer head units ALSO speaky de Android and Apple, and our technicians drive around looking for stuff a lot.
Since US drivers....ESPECIALLY those under 30 have somewhat attenuated driving skills I cannot comment on whether or not the cameras have been effective in saving innocent mailboxes and lamp posts....but all it takes is ONE squished kid......

My cars all have mirrors and rear glass, and I'm used to using them but my newest (2020 GM) personal car has a backup camera, and I admit that I use it when it's available.
My CFO cannot stand it because it's too bright at night and rain renders it less than useful.
Since it's the only one I've regularly used, I'm not sure if the other OEMs allow you to switch it off at night or if they handle wx differently or better.

I'd replace the head unit just to get Appdroid play capability if the 2012 weren't thusly equipped as a DIY project

The Priussy is supposed to be among Yota's most reliable cars, but I'd rather have my kid in the station wagon.

    AS always....YMMV.

In our opinion, a backup camera makes parallel parking much easier.

Head unit replacement is a great idea. I wonder what the cost is? I'll look around. So most head unit replacements come with a backup camera as an option?

BTW - this *has* to be something that won't stand out...since it will be parked on the streets of Minneapolis. Unfortunately, even the place she is moving to in august only has street parking. That's how it is in many areas of Minneapolis... I'm worried that hoodlums might be on the lookout to steal nice head units...

Edit : Tons of head unit and backup camera discussion over on the Prius C threads :

Just picked up the 2012 Prius C with 63K miles....she is in GREAT shape!

    upload_2021-6-25_18-54-34.png

Got 57 MPG on the way home! That's pretty darn impressive. I think the winds were favorable though...(y) Power seems ok on the freeway as well. It's no sports car...but it certainly holds it's own.

It is weird using an actual key to 'start' the car as well as use the key FOB to unlock the doors. No smart key system here!

I actually kind of like the basic setup. Very, very functional and stupid easy to use. (y) I'm also impressed by the interior space. When you are inside it seems much larger than it really is. Maybe part of that is due to the fact that it doesn't have the 'flying console' like the Gen3's do.

Already ordered Husky floor liners and a head unit with backup camera ( 'boss' brand ). I'm impressed at how affordable these replacement head units have become.

BTW - it is also really cheap to insure. I was actually a bit surprised...

Edit - And it really is a smaller brother to our Prius v wagon ( see my signature pic to the left for a small pic of our Prius v ). (y)

    Congrats on the new ride(y).

I've ridden in the c before, and it was cramped:cool:.

But @Pedal Logic and I aren't the smallest humans around either:censored:.

Remember with the 2012 c that there is no 12 volt terminal up front ;).

Enjoy the new to you c(y).

Well I'm 6 feet tall and it didn't seem cramped at all. At any rate, this is targeted as a 'city car' for my daughter.

Edit - it does, in fact, have a 12 volt terminal. (y)

Maybe @Raytheeagle means under-the-hood 12 volt jump point?

Ahh ok I get it now. That is unfortunate! I guess I need to install a battery minder harness accessible from the back seat, etc...
