EV Charging Socket spring-loaded charging port cap.

    Looking for a J1772 spring-loaded charging port inlet cap. If you have a Prius Prime, a spring-loaded port cap to replace the cheap manual inlet cap setup. If you forget the cap in the holder and the charging lid is forced shut and locks, the charging lid will not fully close. Visited a friend and was showing him the car, moved the cap to the holder and while I was distracted, he pushed the charging lid shut and forced the lid to lock partially closed. Without the 800 page manual for emergency release lever procedure your stuck. The car won't start with the lid not closed.

    Someone needs to make a modification for a spring-loaded inlet cap or a inlet cap fitted to the charging lid so when you shut it, it seals the J1772 Charging plug socket. Some cars have this type of inlet cap setup. This Toyota setup is cheap and appears that little to no effort was given to this problem waiting to happen.

    Although it has never happened to mine, I have read someone having exactly the same problem. It would be nice to integrate the cap onto the charge port lid, but have not seen or heard anyone doing such mod or any aftermarket cap that will avoid this problem.

    Let us know if you find a solution.

    pip has the integrated cap, not sure how toyota managed to go backward on this

    Yeah, that was a really dumb move on their part. I'm thinking it might not be that hard to come up with something. It would be a nice convenience.

    I know this is old, but wait a minute. Your PiP has a cap? Mine never had any cap from day one.

    cap: 'a protective lid or cover for an object'

    i called it an integrated cap, and it is much better than the prime setup. it covers the plug, with no issues.
    toyota went backwards on that one

    caps were something you put in a toy gun when i was a kid

    but they didn't look anything like the pic in post #8
