Yesterday, we got a lot of rain in Chicago and I was stuck in the worst of it. On my way home, I was forced to drive through some deep puddles. The last one I drove through cause a "hybrid system malfunction" error and I'm not sure if the system just needs time to dry out. The car still drives, but the warning is still there. 2016 Prius 4.

I know on our third gen, looking up through driver's side wheel well (with wheel off), I could see a inverter cable connector, not that far up. I was on a rustproofing mission, and noticed corrosion on the mesh sheathing of the cable, and the metal shoulder of the connector. Which says to me there's less than adequite splash protection. There may be some similar down-low inverter connection, on fourth gen?

In your shoes, I'd take it into the dealership, describe what happened, let them check the codes and so on.

If you have a way of reading the trouble codes yourself, that's what I'd do, rather than driving to a dealer. If not, yeah, the dealer can do it.

Many auto parts stores will read codes for free

One thing that can go wrong, though, is that many auto parts stores will have readers that only know about some of the computers in a Prius, and will not show any sign of the codes in other computers.

That often leads to the threads here on PriusChat where people post "I've got these warning lights and there aren't any codes", or where the only codes they post will be things like C1259 or P3000 that just mean there are other codes in other computers, and they won't have any of the ones that really explain the issue.
