Hey, I don't remember the hard line that was attached to the engine, but I think the video shows it.
    I removed it for sure!

Well hell. She did not fire up. I think I have other issues. Tech stream has a p0717 code and 3 cylinder misfires stored in the permanent column. I tried maintenance mode. No go. My instrument panel is lit up pretty good. Cleared trouble codes, but abs and Trac control did not clear. Read that abs is only cleared by obd1 connection. Hybrid batt reads zero volts with disconnect installed. 12v batt reads 12.4v. It's duralast agm 3 mo old. It was weird. I pulled the connections to the ecu under hood and the water pump turned on. Did not fix issue. No ready light. Guy I bought from said new hybrid batt was from prius with 100k mi. Also get b1503, code sometimes. Damn it's hot in Texas. Any advice is much appreciated.

Start with a hybrid battery if you say it reads 0 volts make sure you put that orange plug back in start there

And your cylinder misfire make sure you cleaned the EGR ports on that intake I totally missed them they're so small shown in pic IMG_20210316_175752.jpg IMG_20210316_175752.jpg IMG_20210316_175749.jpg

Thanks for the tips. Yes, I made sure the orange plug was there. The back ground is, this engine had a blown head gasket and water was inside the engine. So I think the misfires are from that time the engine was failing. I believe the same for the coolant temp code. I'll take the intake back off tomorrow and make sure they clean. At this point, I don't even get ready light. I need to find out all issues that won't allow a ready light. I believe previous owner used hybrid battery to move vehicle a bit, but then drained it. I read the ice will still start with dead hybrid battety. I also check all the fuses. Thanks again.

If it was a snake it would have bit me. I'm a newb. There I said it. I wasn't locking the damn hv disconnect in place. You gotta push it after you pull it. After I figured that out, ready light came right on and she fired up. She smoked and dumped quite a bit of chocolate milk as my son called it. After the smoke cleared, I let her run for a while. Then I got the over temp issue. I reburped the coolant by pumping the lower radiator hose. Then at one point, the water pump freaked out like it didn't have any lubricant on the electric motor side. I'm thinking it's from the air that was in the line. At this point, I was going to try and remove the tstat and give it open flow and see how it behaves. With 40k miles I wouldn't think the tstat or water pump would be failing. More to come. Thanks to everyone for the support. Can't wait to do another one! Thanks! Yes you do. After looking back, it was very easy with the right resources. Couldn't have done it without @Ragingfit diagrams and vids. Where you located?

Coo. If we were closer, I'd be willing to knock out a swap with you. How much do you think someone would pay for a prius with a swap like this? If the price is right, may be worth doing a few on the side and making some extra change. I'm in Austin, TX if you're ever in the area, let me know and we can talk shop.

I think a prius like this runs for about 6k give or take but in CA its already a business. people already created and industry they buy all the blown head gasket Prius between 2 and 3 k and fix them then sell them. ANd now with used cars in short supply these cars are like unicorns over here.

are there any on the market in your area for sale? on a side note the one thing I learned doing this job is DO NOT PUT THE COWLING AND WINDSHIELD WIPPER ASSMBLY BACK ON unless you know for sure the car is 100 percent fixed. I took that think on and off so many times I feel like a pit race car tire changer im so good at it.

And if you leave cowl and wipers off Murphy’s Law says you’ll have no problems. Maybe…

I had the engine OUT of mine three times when I did my swap, not counting removing the original blown one. LoL. The final time I started removal at 9 am, drove the car home completely assembled at 5pm.

I recall @Ragingfit getting hung up on Exhaust Gas Recirculation removal (cooler/valve) with the engine still installed. I was practically shouting at the screen “just leave it, till the engine’s out”. Or is that not practical?

    And yeah, I know: hindsight…

    The post mortem.

As you can see number four goes up higher and goes down lower does that make sense for a rod that's bent the other three are all equal they go the same height up and down except number four I did have a stuck open fuel injector which I suspect flooded number four full of fuel and cause the bent rod that being said you can see the head gasket doesn't seem to have a failure on cylinder number four comments welcome. Here's what something that puzzles me shouldn't number four go down lower since it goes up higher or does it not seem correct that it goes up higher than the rest but doesn't go as low as the rest if that makes sense.
