Yesterday, while driving, my Prime Limited decided to update itself. I thought it as just a fluke as it rebooted itself while driving but I noticed now that every time I turn the car on, the screen is different, see photo below. The new update seems to leave that menu screen below, so I have to swipe down each time to get rid of it and see the street name which I like. I prefer the full screen view from before the update to what I have now. R20A2500 seems to be the updated version, because my other Prius (born just two weeks earlier) has R20A2400 and doesn't boot up with the colorful menu screen that I have to swipe away for full screen. The update history doesn't show the change but it is certainly different.

Does anyone know how the Prius finds the update? It doesn't seem to connect to WiFi so it must be some kind of satellite connection or piggyback of the phones internet. The Blue prius (the two weeks older one) hasn't updated to this software yet and the update button isn't lit up yet. Id like them both to be the same ideally, even with the annoying menu staying at the bottom as in the pictures. tempImageQ5YM8b.png tempImageQ5YM8b.png tempImage6um7Rb.png tempImageJVg8dv.png tempImageIOIZRb.png

Just a WAG but maybe via the DCM or a paired Smartphone running the Toyota app.
I have a 2018 Advanced and it uses the Entune App for connectivity to the Internet. I believe that's been deprecated for the later model Primes but I'm not totally sure of that.

I can't imagine Toyota giving anyone FREE nav update OTA. It must be just the software update via your smartphone. I will check my new 2021 PP map version later, but I really think the map itself has not been updated since your purchase.

You are correct, this is a software update that changes the appearance of the startup screen default layout

Mine is a 2018 MY without OTA (DCM isn’t available in Canada for Primes so we have no Entune). Mine always started with the floating circle menus on power up.

I confirmed with my 2021 PP Ltd purchased 10 days ago, came with R20A2500 software version, and it does have the menu circles as shown on your image. Yep, just finger swipe down will get rid of it. I can't remember what the boot up screen was like on my 2017 PP with the large display, but my vague memory tells me that I had to touch the menu button to see the circles appear.

Since I have this screen turned off most of the time, it is a non-issue for me, but it would interesting if you can revert to an older software version and see the reversal effect. I just don't think there is an easy way to do that.

My Prius that it’s two weeks older Oh my displays the visual circles when you swipe up or press menu, I like that. The one that just updated used to do that until the update. LOL weird

I don't think I fully understand. You just need to hit the arrow up/down button that is above the compass direction in the upper left to move the menu circles. The position persists, depending on the last setting.

    Yep.

My grand daughter was futzing around trying to connect her phone/playlist in my first Prime, and left the screen with the menu bubbles as you show. It took a search through the manual to find the arrow up/down connection (doh!) which stays until someone resets it (at least on my setup: currently R20A2400 Nav version).

I think OP is talking about the map display, but talking about the circular menus that overlaying the map right after boot-up. From his description and comparison of the photos showing older versions of the software did not have persistent menu circles when boot-up. I can't confirm it now, but I do think my 2017 PP did not have the menu circle overlays when first boot-up.

My 2021 XLE was built in 10/20 and has the 2400 software which displays the bubbles only after pressing menu or swiping up.

I believe the PP piggybacks on your cellular phone's data via the Toyota app to do downloads.

Thank you, this seemed to fix the overlay of the bubbles! All is good in the Prime world again lol.
