Why might the ICE continue running for ~5+ minutes while stopped?

Yesterday was hot here in the low 90s I got in the Prius v to go pick up some lunch. Turned on the car and battery at two bars. AC set to 74 I started driving. While cooling down the cabin the engine stayed on for what seemed a very long time, I guesstimate .25 mi to 0.5 mi, before it started adding bars. At 4 or 5 bars the engine finally stopped. (I was driving and just glancing at the meter).

We have a little under 32k mi, 318xx mi. Battery was at one bar from full when I parked at home. I would guess what you're experiencing is just normal at this age/mileage...

    moto g(7) power ?

It's this. I notice it when my SO drives prius in the city and it's hot, she only gets about 40MPG and when i start the car a bit later to reposition it, it refuses to go EV and runs ICE even with full battery charge and warmed up engine. Once the battery fan came in full force and that clued me on why that is. When the battery is too warm, the car protects it and uses only ICE as a source of energy.

Her particular inefficient style of driving cycles the battery too much and heats the battery in the process. When i drive, i avoid fully discharging the battery and try to put as few cycles as possible.

Sometimes it's completely out of your control. I was in this situation where the outside temperature was around 100F and seemed every time I parked the car and got back in, the car battery would get hotter and hotter. I was pretty much on ICE power the entire day for that one day, car would shut off for about 2 seconds and then come back on. This HV battery on my car is only 2 years old, so it's not a worn battery.
