Shame you didn't just bop them with a hand impact driver when you had the chance. The little surprise is all they need, and they twirl out nice as can be. Seems the alternatives are more fuss.

I have a hand impact driver somewhere that looks like this picture I found on the internet. I used to use it on my Motorcycle. I could only find the bits. The driver was at least 1.5 inches in diameter. I suspect it would not have fit in the 1/2 inch space between the EGR body (blue) and the centerline (Red) of the Phillips screw. Because of the 3/8 inch hex drive of this Impact driver, finding an extension would not be easy.

Possibly a slight obstacle. I have to admit I used the air-bopped version from Lisle, which may be a bit narrower, and poses no problem.

I lived most of my life without having this thing (or an air hammer). Now I'm not sure how. :)

One thing I was surprised to learn about the air hammer is, while capable of great feats of whackage, it is also capable of great delicacy by feathering the trigger, so it ends up being easier to do delicate stuff with this than with my hand impact tool and a hammer.

Does yours take 1/4" or 5/16" hex bits? One idea might be to look for longer ones. I mean, too late now that your valve's heads are ground off, but could save someone else trouble. (Edit: missed that you said 3/8" hex. Hmm, that is unusual.)

If needed for clearance, run an extension with a 6 face socket (suitable size for your screw driver bits)? The extension’s slop may water down the impact’s efficacy though.

I don't think slop hurts. There's slop built into the Lisle tool by design. Bops still get transmitted all the way down. With the hand impact kind, you're usually keeping it rotationally preloaded in the direction you want it to twist.

Would these brushes for cleaning drinking straws be long enough to clean the intake passages?

Have trouble seeing amazon links on this site, but yeah, that's what I used, and they had plenty of reach, were a good diameter. These were from Lee Valley Tools, described as cleaning brushes for stainless steel drinking straws:

I was guessing when I said 3/8 inch. All I knew was it was bigger than 1/4 inch, so 1/4 inch hex extenders were of no help. My neighbor was outside, and I knew he had both types of grinders. I figured I would have the heads ground off before I would be able to find the tool in my overstuffed garage.

I should find that Hammer impact tool. It made getting Phillips screws off on my Motorcycle so easy.

Those are extensions for an air or electric impact wrench, which technically aren’t needed for a manual (banging with a hammer) impact screw driver. I think.

In other words: if you’ve got regular chromed-steel extensions they’ll be ok. But getting an impact set doesn’t hurt. And they’re dirt cheap.

I happen to be picking up such a set today, but for use with an electric impact.

FWIW, this is the set I’m picking up, in 1/2” drive:

The typical hand-bopped impact drivers, as pictured in #82, have a 5/16" hex recess to accept a 5/16" hex driven bit. So extensions designed for the square-drive socket ecosystem just aren't of any use there.

BTW: I noticed that my Diver's Side Tow Hook Cover went AWOL. It happened some time in the weeks between when I cleaned the EGR Cooler, and when I cleaned the Intake manifold. I suspect it may have come off at the car wash, but who knows. I already remove the roof rubber strips every time before entering the car wash, just to save the trouble of asking the employees to fetch the strips when they come off.

    BumperCover.jpg

Anyway, the part numbers are: 52127-47902 (right) and 52128-47902 (Left) and cost $8.80 each at my local dealer. However, they are not pre-painted. They would be some color of primer. My color code is 3R3 Barcelona Red, which might not look good with a can of Duplicolor at Advance Auto. A pre-painted one is going to cost ~ $100.

I put up a post on JunkyardDog.com, so I'll see if I can get a used one from a trashed front bumper cover. Of course when I bought a new front bumper cover in June of 2020 , that cover did not include replacement Tow Eye Covers, so they are not available. I still have not taken the old one the plastic recycling place.

Any other suggestions for dealing with this hole? Funny suggestions are strongly encouraged.

I did find something interesting on my Blizard White 2017. That ugly black plastic portion that dominates the front end contains the Tow Eye Covers . Since all 2015-17 Prius V's have the same black part, they can stock the Tow Eye Covers in Black.

You can buy a touch-up bottle of 3R3 Barcelona Red at the dealership.

Painting is deep mystery to me and I don't know if there's any technique you could use to get a decent finish on a tow hook cover using a touch-up bottle, but at least it would be the right color stuff to start with.

Auto Parts stores sell various spray paint cans meant to match the OEM color. Duplicolor is one brand. It would not cost a lot to try.

Alternately, I could buy one and ask a body shop that does a lot of Toyotas if they could call me when they are painting a 3R3 body part.

Strobe Lights... that is original. I could message my PAX (Uberspeak for Passengers) in the app to look for the strobe lights. I like it. I could use Blue for Uber, and Pink for Lyft. Or I could be really geeky, and have them flash the PAX's name plus Uber/Lyft in morse code! I have a dead Lyft "AMP" (the official Lyft dashboard light), maybe I could work that in somehow.

I didn't realize your Tesla was a 2013... Batteries holding up? There is a lot of talk among the Rideshare community about going all electric, and people doing it too.
