Looks great at night. The rear lights are very distinctive.

Haha..I've always had 'eccentric' taste in car design.

I've been looking into the Hyundai hybrid system...and their dual clutch transmission ( DCT ) seems a bit dubious to me for long term reliability.

Edit : Here is a decent video of how their system works :

Unfortunately, no Weber Auto video to describe the inner workings.

I think they’ve had decent success. I would buy one if they had something I liked.

The DCT is a killer for those who keep their cars for a long time. Manual transmissions require clutch replacement, There are two in this Hyundai.

The Prius transmission is nearly "bulletproof."

Absolutely...the dry clutch *will* cause issues for long term owners...no doubt about it. Because of that, the Hyundai hybrids are a no go for me at this time.

Honestly, bad move by Hyundai to incorporate a DCT in these hybrids...pretty disappointing.

Other of their hybrids use automatic step transmissions.

A parallel hybrid system has a cost advantage over a power-split. The hybrid premium for the Elantra is $675 less than the Corolla's. The use of a typical transmission allows for smaller motors for the same economy gains. The transmission does have more parts, but they are made of materials cheaper than the copper needed in a more powerful motor before we consider rare earth minerals for the magnets. Savings there go to the battery, which is about 50% higher capacity than what is in the Prius.
