2022 Prius Prime—anything different?

    2021 Prius Prime was a huge upgrade over the 2020 Prius Prime with TSS 2.0 and improved steering and handling. 2022 Prius Prime is priced identically, and I didn't notice anything different. Did anyone see anything different?

    i haven't seen anything either. i think they are putting all their efforts into the next gen, if and when.

    no official staements from toyota that i have seen. we're all hoping and guessing.

    i think that is true for most of the industry. everyone is trying to keep profits up while anticipating potentially changing consumer demand which relies mostly on gas prices and government incentives

    If it is the same car with just different year of production, right now 2022 model costs $3.5K more than the 2021 model in NE.

    Yeah, same here. The 2021 models are fast drying up. The 2022 models are slowly coming in, but no dealer around me, not just Toyota, but I mean ALL dealers have very little inventories of any cars. I snugged the last 2021 PP Ltd that was in the lot of my local Toyota dealer just a few weeks ago. They now have only 6 new vehicles, No PP, in their inventory. Usually have a hundred or more. I have never seen their parking lot being so empty.

    Unlikely. The next-generation Prius Prime will probably be a 2024 or later model year; so, don't hold your breath for that one.

    Nop, I bought the last 2021 PP on the lot from my local Toyota dealer.
    To Do list on my third Prius Prime | PriusChat

    I am going back to commuting for my work very soon. And my workplace just installed charge stations for employees to use. I don't know if it is for a fee or free yet. But if free, then I can basically commute the round trip of 36.5 miles free during warmer months and at least one way free in winter. The only regret I have on grabbing the last on the lot was that they had only Limited trim in Titanium Glow. Not the trim nor the color I would have picked if I had choices.

    This is great. Titanium Glow (gold) would be my last color choice, but I'm sure you will love the extra bells and whistles on the Limited.

    37 miles round-trip is hard but not impossible. You can add a few miles at home so that the ICE never kicks in. I would hate the ICE kick in in the last mile because the oil never gets to warm up, which causes extra wear and tear in the engine. I don't drive in the HV mode unless the one-way trip is over 10–15 miles.

    Well, I still think the LE model is much better than Ltd both in value and functionality, IMHO. So far after 2 weeks of driving 2021 PP Ltd, I have deleted the Softex seats with a mesh seat cover. I have turned off HUD, LTA, RSA, and Auto Highbeam. I have not installed Toyota App on my phone and I don't intend to do so. I have not done it yet, but my next thing to do is to opt out from the Safety Connect. I have the 11.6" display turned off most of the time. I have not had a chance to try using the Intelligent Parking Assist/Simple Advanced Parking Guidance and the Parking Support Brake function yet and have not had needs for the auto anti-glare rearview mirror, the blind spot monitor or RCTA. And I will never use charge port door lock, home-link, and fog lights. Compared to the LE model, I do like the power driver's side seat, 3 door SKS, auto rain-sensing wiper, auto turn-on headlight, and JBL sound quality. But none of them are essential features to me.

    But compared to my previous 2017 PP, this new 2021 PP definitely has a better EV range, which I am starting to suspect the reason to be the higher and/or lower thresholds of EV mode operation on the traction battery SoC than on the 2017 PP. I have driven 4 times now full charge 100% to --% all in EV mode, and without trying anything I was able to get 34-35miles of EV range. But, the full charge is taking definitely more kWh per charge than the previous 2017 PP. The 2020 PP might have behaved similarly, but I did not drive the 2020 PP LE often enough to get an accurate comparison. Yeah, 37 miles round trip is so damn close to the PP's EV range limit, so that I was always seeing the ICE firing just a few miles before I pull in my driveway. If I can't routinely pull the full round trips on a single full charge, yes, I will charge at home just enough to add a few more miles to the EV range. In any case, the range will be halved in winter, so I will have to do the change at home and at work to get all EV mode drives.

    If you waited a little more, it would be better for you to get 2022 LE.
    Even with 2000 cashback, the 2022 LE is cheaper than 2021 Limited that you paid extra for options that you don't even use.

    Seeing the 2022 model trickling into the dealerships around the greater Boston area, and none yet in my neck of woods, it will be a while before I can pick and choose the trim and color on the 2022 PPs. I have to start going back to work very soon, so I could not have waited that long. Besides, it is OK to pick up 2021 Ltd now with a $5500 rebate. I am likely to trade it in for a 2022 model car either 2022 PP or Rav4Prime or other Bevs in less than a year for a profit. I made ~$4K on my sale of 10 mo old 2020 PP LE, so I am hoping similar result from this 2022 PP Ltd as well. Yap, I paid extra for the options I don't use, but I am hoping I can get $~3K more for the trade-in value compared to LE, so my extra cost would be only depreciated portion of the excess amount paid which is likely to be ~$2K... which makes it still a better buy than the 2022 PP LE with only $2K off.

    The Toyota Canada press release called out 2 new safety features for 2022, which are very minor:

    New this year, the Prius Prime receives two safety enhancements. An upgraded light control system ensures rear lights are on when the vehicle is in motion. And the Rear Seat Reminder helps drivers remember to check the rear seat for all articles when leaving the vehicle.

    I checked the Toyota's USA website's newsroom page and couldn't find anything about the 2022 Prius Prime. Too busy selling and promoting SUVs and Pickup trucks, I guess.
