Just got rear-ended on a local road. Took a pretty hard hit and left a big dent on rear bumper. Hatchback door also got damaged and wont close now. I am going to take my Prius to the shop tomorrow. Since the door wont close, the door open warning light is lit from the dashboard. Is there anything I can do to prevent from a battery drain?

Get a 7mm carabiner and click it into the latch mechanism. You can also use that as a tie-off to physically hold the lid down.

I did this (when carrying a long load, on our 3rd gen) and it didn’t stop the beep; did work as a hold down point though. Regarding not silencing the beep: maybe wasn’t quite the right shape??

The latch (like most automotive door/hatch latches, for maybe some standard safety reason?) has two levels of click.

It has to be latched to the second click to make the hatch-ajar switch.
