That’s good. Probably only experienced low oil pressure when cornering. You may have a viable engine still. Except, it DOES have a “drinking problem”.

I had them turned off under my Preferences:

Hmm, do I really want to turn them on?

discovered that by accident, but I’m not a fan of smartphones. Mine is from 2015, raytheeagle has an even older phone and we carry them around like Olympic medals ha!

I went from a perfectly servicable iPhone 5, about same vintage as yours, to an iPhone SE(2), just to have a compatible phone for a new service provider. To be fair, I think the battery was getting a little long-in-the-tooth.

All-in-all it was nice though, slightly bigger screen, some handy new features.

    Man, talk about topic-drift...

What is truly amazing is we have 29 posts (with 5 from Mendel) and I am the only one who previously mentioned an egr.

    I'm in remission?

My 2 cents: oil consumption's mostly the domain of the block, the weak piston rings? And maybe some through knackered valve stem seals.

I don't blame EGR clogging for everything. Kind of like that father-in-law in My Big Fat Greek Wedding: any ailment, dip it in Windex...

    ^First thing's first.
We have to get Beth to start seeing other people (mechanics) and restore her faith in her Prius.

A famous Navy skipper (Jim Lawrence) once said..."Don't get off the ship!"...or words to that effect.
He was mortally wounded at the time, and we were battling pushy Brits at the time coming over here and trying to make us change the way we do things - NOT that any of this has changed very much over the last 210 years mind you.....

    So.....
    1. Oil use, excessive oil use, and engines that need replacing are very different things.
Let's presume that your engine is as healthy as any other engine with 100,000 miles - which makes it about 55 years old in car-years.
    No.
It's not a young'un any more...BUT I don't think it's time yet to sign DNRs and shop for funeral plots and caskets JUST because it's drinking and perhaps smoking a little bit.

You have some maintenance items due at 120,000 miles, IIRC and you should presume that some of the earlier maintenance items have been gun-decked, which is another NAVY'ism meaning "not-done"
    BUT(!!!!!!)
This doesn't mean that this car is or will be a money pit.
You just have to trade a little time and effort to save money.
MANY of the things you can do yourself - (engine air filter, cabin air filter, fluids check, etc...)
Actually...ALL of the things you can do yourself, but step # first is BEING AWARE of the maintenance items for your car, and finding (or BEING) an honest mechanic.

    https://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/omms-s/T-MMS-13Prius/pdf/2013_Toyota_Prius_WMG.pdf

If you don't have (or become) a service provider for your car, then you're extremely likely to spend FAAAAR more money than you HAVE TO on a car that you paid good money for......to SAVE money, and perhaps be a little less damaging to the environment.

A 2013 Prius, sketch upbringing notwithstanding, is a DAND GOOD CAR!

    ...Don't give up!

    Good Luck!

The problem is the presumption of health seems to be false; the dealer has already told her it failed Toyota's excessive oil consumption test (which is greater than one quart per 1200 miles) and needs an engine. She has already experienced low oil pressure. Just because some of us may be in denial about the 2010-14 piston and piston ring design flaws, even though it was acknowledged by Toyota, memorialized with a specific test and experienced by many, the question was should she follow the dealers guidance. They even offered a discounted engine replacement. Certainly second opinions are in order with perhaps the most prudent being careful measurement of oil use over the next 1200 miles.

The Toyota test and impacted vehicles are attached.

    Sorry.
I stopped reading after "dealer told her."

    Put another way....
EVEN a doctor telling me that my kid needs a heart-lung transplant would be required to provide an explanation.....and I'd probably STILL get a second opinion!

Pandemic shenanigans notwithstanding....let's "presume" for the purposes of THIS discussion that doctor-doctors (MDs) have a "slightly" different reputation for integrity and knowledge than SE Toyota dealers!
Besides that...the OP stated that there was an under-pressure event 8,000 miles into ownership with a 10,000 mile OCI.

Toyota's bovine-extract story is that the car is using one US quart per 1100~1300 miles.
(IIRC that's the spec.) And the OP is being "advised" to have a motorectomy performed on the car, perhaps without knowing what the current burn rate IS....if i read the OP correctly.

    I smell unrefrigerated fish.....

....like the kind they have on BOATS in dealer mechanic's driveways.

if it were my car, i would check the oil every day, then every other day, then every third day, etc. (or go by miles if your driving is erratic) until i had a handle on how many days/miles it takes to go from the top mark to the kow mark.
then i would extrapolate over 5,000 miles, and make my decision on how to proceed.

yes it only happened when cornering and has no other issues. I was hoping you would chime in, you are so knowledgeable. Thank you and I feel a lot better. Thanks to you and everyone else who has posted here. I understand that I need to check the oil all the time and get it assessed by a mechanic asap - just in case.

I don't know how many quarts it was low. it was down to the lower dot. sorry, I don't know how low that is. This is my first Prius and I've only had it a short time. My husband passed away from cancer a couple of years ago and this was the first car I bought on my own. I always had him to do the vehicle maintenance for me. I'm learning a lot from all of you here. I'm checking the oil daily for now to determine my consumption and will keep a better eye on it from now on.

Thank you! very reassuring and funny as well. Very true - I need to start taking care of the simple maintenance items and looking for a mechanic to help me with the other stuff.

to be clear - they DID NOT offer me a discounted engine replacement. He only said a re-built engine is "around $4000". Like I said previously, I am sure that doesn't include a considerable amount of labor.
