Acadia camping grounds have been booked solid since last year! It's always solidly booked in advance, but this summer is worse than usual in that many tourists who can't fly abroad decided to take a land route to the Vacationland. And to make things worse, there is a shortage of seasonal workers in the hospitality business. I hope you find places to stay along your trip. Good luck.

That has crossed my mind, and it could become necessary. But we would not be able to lay down. For one thing, there's too much stuff in the car, especially with the spare tire. And the back seats on a Prime don't lay flat at the same level as the cargo deck anyway. So it would be uncomfortable. But it would be very cheap! :D

Worked out very well for me at my last (in person) college reunion, where I hadn't registered quickly enough to get space in a dorm or in town.

In 1973 over Christmas break, I went with a friend to a huge misssions conference for college students in Urbana, IL. We were in his pickup truck that had a topper. We slept under the topper in the arena parking lot. Nighttime lows were in the low singe digits. Thanks to good sleeping bags, we slept OK. But when I tried to shave that first morning in one of the arena bathrooms, the shaving cream rattled in the can like a rock. :ROFLMAO:

We always got the regular $80 annual pass for the household, until spouse qualified for that $10 Senior lifetime pass. Then she got a spare just before the price increase, in case something ever happens to the original.

But her Senior pass isn't good for me to visit without her, as I'd done on the previous passes a number of times when she was otherwise occupied. (And she doesn't really want me going unchaperoned with "other wife", who does have her own.) So I'm crossing my fingers that the Senior pass still exists when I reach qualifying age.

Well, we're off. We may have to make some adjustments due to Henri wanting to spend a day right where we plan to stay ... just as we arrive on Monday evening. But we can alway improvise. ;) Or, wait out the rain.

Have a safe trip. Hope the weather will cooperate. Looks like Henry will be here Sunday night into Monday then maybe continuing to Tuesday. More severe in southern New England? I don't think a tropical storm warning has been issued yet but looks sure thing at least in some part of NE.

Amazingly, I have been and done all of the "20 Top-Rated Tourist Attractions & Things to Do in Boston" listed on the linked page you posted. Not all at once of course, but over years when we were living there. I wasn't so disappointed in any of the places or events listed, since I was not a tourist from away. I think if you travel far and long for that purpose, your expectation is higher, thus bound to be disappointed. I can't remember when was the last time I have taken a vacation trip purely for pleasure. Leisure traveling and fashion are two things I can do without in my lifestyle. I'd much rather stay home and work on my garden for my leisure time than travel far for sightseeing. ;)

As of midday on Saturday, it looks like the storm will affect mostly the Connecticut coast and central Massachusetts. Boston will get plenty of rain but be spared the winds and tidal surge:

If you make it to the coast, be careful of high surf and stay safe. But you might find some dramatic photo opportunities.

    I

We're in Madison, CT and will hunker down, as we are on higher ground. Areas south of the Boston Post Rd (US 1) have a mandatory evacuation by 9PM tonight.

Having a generator eases the pain (well, furnace, freezer, refrigerator, lights, etc.) but no cable or internet for days sucks!:(

i remember the first time seeing plymouth rock on a school trip. even at that young age i was thinking, 'is that it'?
dc was actually a very good take, and we spent a lot of time there between the historical/political sites and the museums

We just arrived at our rustic first night's lodging in Thornton, NH after three fairly long days, a few hours enjoying St. Simon's Island, seeing cousins near D.C, and several hours of driving in light rain.

Day one was 435 miles with a car-guestimated 55 mpg.
Day two was 557.7 miles and 56.6 mpg.
Day three was 605.1 miles and 56.2 mpg.
I'll do the tank by tank math for the real mpg when we get back home.

Tomorrow night we'll be at a different Air B&B in NH. So we can see Mt. Washington tomorrow or wait till Wednesday morning before we drive over to Maine. Tomorrow looks promising, but Wednesday looks great. At least it did last time I checked.

So, just so ya can't say "It didn't happen," here are a few pix.

Us in front of our rustic quarters ... also none the worse for our three-day ride. Looking forward to the sights we'll see up here.

nice! has it been a comfortable drive in the Prime? I still haven't gone more than 60 miles in one trip in mine! I'll probably do a trip to New Brunswick Canada some time over the next year, really looking forward to a long trip in the Prime.
