With the upcoming production cuts (post #5008) I wonder if the rebates will even come back.

Picked up a white LE today. Price was MSRP + tax + title + license - 2000 toyota rebate - 900 california rebate. Total OTD was slightly under 30k. Will apply for the tax credit next year.

I talked to Empire Toyota in Oneonta and they are down to just two vehicles, both Limited trim. Wanted an XLE. They did tell me that they would apply the Uber driver discount if the customer qualifies.

Yes, I was there today. Think they are down to one Limited Magnetic Gray and one XLE Titanium Glow.

Here's how it went down -
    2021 Prius Prime XLE
$31,588 MSRP (with included options Door Edge / Body Side Moldings/ Carpet Floor Mats/ Cargo Mats)
$695 Corrosion Protection (dealer mark up no choice)
$795 Xzilon Protection (dealer mark up no choice)
    $175 (dealer fee)
    -$5,000 manufacture rebate
    -$750 Uber Rebate

    $27,503 Out the Door Price

    -$4,502 tax rebate
    $23,001 after tax Rebate

Had I scored this deal a month ago, I could of saved an additional ~$2k without the markup. Not the best but I'll take it.

Just need to drive back and register at home state. I'm expecting to pay approximately $500 in RTA Tax, TTL, etc... so bottom line price for a 2021PP XLE ~$23,500

I imagine there is only a few 2021 PP left and with Toyota production slowing down, it's going to be harder to find these deals for some time. I'm thankful I was still able to take advantage of this offer. Thank you everyone for sharing your experience to help me close the deal.

I would take it too. 2021s are in short supply and they are no different than 2022s. With Toyota shutting down a significant portion of their plants, the supply chain is unpredictable.

I got the last Silver Limited last week there. My friends own the dealership. Congrats. I'm pleased with mine so far (470 miles on it)

Unless my CPA is wrong, that isn't a rebate, it's a tax credit off your GAI when you file. If you're in the 28% tax bracket it equates to $1260 actual cash.

It's $4502 ACTUAL money off your tax liability. If your tax liability is less, you can deduct the amount up to but not exceeding $4502 and is a one-time credit (cannot be carried over into later tax years).

Did it three times in three years!

If your CPA told you the information, you should think about changing to a new CPA. He/She is clearly confusing the difference between tax credit vs tax deduction. The $4502 for PP is a non-refundable tax credit with the max amount that can be as high as $7500 for a car with a larger battery.

I mispoke. $4502 Tax Credit. Based on my last year’s 1040 line 24, my total tax I owed is over $4500. So assuming all my income is the pretty much the same if not slightly higher than last year’s filing info. I assumed I should be eligible for the full credit. Crossing fingers!

Congratulations to you too! I got the last Silver XLE on Friday as well. Wasn’t thrilled about the dealer mark up….but I understood what I was in for. Great customer service. Was pleased to do business there.

Soon the question will be - does Toyota increase the 2022 rebate/cash amount, keep it at $2k, lower it?

I found it surprising that they are basically sticking to their standard schedule for manufacturer incentives and letting dealers make the "market adjustment" during these times. Toyota is missing out on thousands of dollars on each car sold, IMO.

Congrats to those who are scooping up the remaining 2021s!

NYSERDA was offering $1100 or so back then which you should have also received.

About leaving cash on the table, I say maybe, maybe not. The fact that some dealers had piles of PPs in the late spring / early summer, even with huge incentives ($4-5k + dealer discounts + tax rebates), even when there were hardly any other cars (new or used) available elsewhere, doesn't really support the idea that these discounts were unnecessary.

I never would have bought a PP at or near its MSRP. I do like the car just fine, but not for > $30k.

It sounds like they may be scaling back production. Whether this truly a result of the chip shortage or a result of poor sales only Toyota knows.
