Prime 2017 max speed?

    Does anyone know what’s the Prime’s top speed? Without a dial, I can’t tell what would be it’s top speed. I’ve had this baby hit 100mph without an issue.

    I think I’d worry about the tires before the car maxing out.

    I suspect the max speed is much higher than my ability to safely drive a car. I certainly have hit >90mph on very rare occasions on the interstate in the past, but anything above that I would be risking my and others' lives. Not worth testing it.

    Aren't they all limited at 112/113 mph?
    Just about all Toyota hybrids here in Europe are limited to 180 km/h.

    See this is why I’m asking because I don’t want to test the limits. But when I got it to 100mph it seemed like it would have gone beyond 100 with no issue. Very smooth. I don’t want to try it again though.

    I figure it has to be an electronic limit set at the computer, not some mechanical limit. Regarding safety, why would Toyota set a speed limit so high that it is very dangerous for the stability of the car? I would think it is safe enough given you’re on a smooth straight path free of debris or paving defects, though I would not take my chances. The police wouldn’t like it and secondly, any imperfections on the road could be a real danger.

    Ummm... if you're interested in speed, are you sure you bought the right car? Just sayin'.

    Perhaps I'm an old fart, as I also own a Mercedes SL and Mercedes Coupe but have no desire to push either to 100 (in any event they are electronically limited to ~149 mph in keeping with their Z tire rating).

    But hey, whatever floats your boat.:eek:

    Is that 180 km/h as displayed on the speedometer, or internally as read via the OBDII port, or on a GPS?

    Considering that the speedometer has an intentional offset or bias, and that European and North American speedometers are often biased differently, this makes a difference.

    As mentioned in the specifications by Toyota. On the speedometer it goes past 180.

    It’s really nothing to do with being interested in speed. It’s just an interest in knowing the limits of the Prius.

    116mph and you can leave it there all day. Engine temps go up to 205F in 90F weather. Economy goes down to round 28mpg
