Replace PCV valve?

Lots of PCV valves come out horizontal. To their credit, Toyota did put a sort of labyrinth where the valve screws in. I think the main issue is that’s it’s down low, on the block. On the valve cover is maybe better.

 

You're talking about a problem that is ostensibly a Gen 3 problem in a post in a Gen 2 forum. It is a good idea to keep information about one generation separate from another generation by posting in the appropriate forum. This helps to not spread misinformation and confusion with the readers of each forum.

Further, I believe the Gen 3 problem is the obstruction of the EGR, not the PCV valve that leads to blown head gaskets.

 

replaced the pcv valve today on my 06 with 81k miles. picture isn’t the best but you can definitely see how crusty it was. did it as preventative maintenance, there weren’t any known issues.

 

Very useful data point. Getting my serpentine belt changed tomorrow, may get the PCV valve changed too at merely 200k miles with no apparent issues. I spend so little on this car as it is.
