Picked up our 2021 about 6 months ago and we are at about 4,700 miles. When we start the car we get a "Maintenance required soon message". I looked up the maintenance schedule in the manual and it shows the first oil change at 10k miles or 12 months. It lists the following at 6 months or 5k miles:

Check Installation Of Driver's Floor Mat Inspect HV Battery Cooling Intake Filter1
Rotate Tires Inspect /Adjust All Fluid Levels2
Inspect Wiper Blades Visually Inspect Brake Linings/Drums And Brake Pads/Discs3

Do we need to take it in now to avoid for these minimal services to avoid voiding our warranty or is it ok to wait until the first oil change at 10k miles / 12 months?

Once more, into the void? ;)

The 6 months or 5K mile service is free for you, right? If you want to keep a clean, unarguable record, I would bring it in.

FWIW, I never had dealership service on ours. There's no 2 years of freebies deal up* here in Canada though. Maybe for the best. I do keep a log, all receipts, buy virtually all supplies through dealership parts department, like oil filters and oil. And the purchases are registered to my name and the car VIN.

    * I guess it's not really "up", more like "over a bit, to the North"?

Do you really think that failing to inspect the floor mats, rotate the tires, inspect the wiper blades and inspect the brake pads will somehow void some part of your warranty ???

It won't. Tires and brake pads are "wear items" and basically have no warranty anyway.

I split the interval on both my cars. One visit around 7K miles.
I never take it in JUST for a tire rotation at 5K.......unless maybe I suspect a problem with the tires.

These are all things you can do yourself, or have an independent shop do if you aren't the type to be jacking up the car and swapping wheels around. Once you are out of the free maintenance period.

As already commented, skipping the 5K service will not void the warranty on the car. Although I have never heard of the actual case, hypothetically, skipping the 10K oil change and somehow you end up needing to get warranty service on your engine, and if you can't produce the proof of service for the oil change, it is possible they may deny the warranty service if it is determined to be caused by neglect.

However, skipping the 5K service may in fact void the tread warranty on the OEM tire if rotation is not performed. You can look at the small print that came with the manual. The OEM tires have a separate warranty from the tire manufacture. Usually, it does not have a "tread" warranty like the one you find on the aftermarket tires, but you may need to check the terms of warranty for your specific OEM tires.

Otherwise, for 5K service, you can just check fluid levels and do the tire rotation yourself... or as long as it is not inconceivably inconvenient for you, just take the car to any Toyota dealer for a free Toyota Care. That's what I usually do for my first 5 services.

Especially that floor mat check.

The freebies aside, you are allowed to basic maintenance yourself, if you’re so inclined. Do keep good records, and all receipts.

If you're wanting to change the constant reverse beeping to on single beep upon reverse engagement, then your 5k service can be used for that. Dealership should do it for you at no cost :)

Mr. Time (may I call you Prime?), somewhere in the back of your owner's encyclopedia you'll find a list of the options only the dealership can change for you. The back up sound mentioned above is just one of those. You might look at the list and see if you'd like anything else changed to your preference.

I like to get the first service performed at the dealer. There might be things the usually sloppy predelivery work skipped (tire inflation pressure one well known skip), and there might be updates for the car's systems.

I've already fixed the beep using my ODB dongle dangle. If anything, I'll take it in just to get the reminder removed from the dash as I have to click out of it every time I use the car.

It's not "free" down here either...unless your time is of no value, and you don't fall for some of their antics.

The only reason that they get away with these scams down here is our consumer protection laws allow outright thievery at the dealership service departments,

    I wonder how???? ;)

I will ONLY let the dealer touch MY car when all lesser means have failed.....and I take great pains to make sure that this almost never happens!!

Tire Rotation - for android Tire Assistant will give you serial #'s of the TPMS sensor locations as programmed into the specific ECU. Makes it easy to check if the rotation was actually done. I finally got our first rotation service completed at 30k. I don't ask but do tell.
5k service the car was washed but was missing a TPMS sensor cap when I got it back.

Simpler, just put a felt marker dot on the rim backside of the two rear wheels, say near the valve stem, to facilitate locating them later.

TPMS sensor cap? That's a tire valve cap, right? ;)

First service should be performed six months after the date of manufacture—not the date of purchase—and the second service one year after the date of manufacture—again, not the date of purchase. They are not optional. They will void your warranty, damage your CarFax report, and decrease the resale value of your vehicle if they are not performed.

    Total BS.
Where exactly did you get that idea ??
    You have it exactly backwards.
No reason to do a "first service" on a vehicle that has been sitting on a dealers lot for 6 months.

    In your opinion.

Do whatever you want. Don't change the oil at all if you like.

The cars get to put in first service when they leave the factory, not when they are sold. In fact, during the first five miles or so, the car is driven several times for very short distances around the ports or in the Ro-Ro without fully warming up, and/or it is idled a lot—falling into the most severe service category. That's why, following the one-year time rule, logically, you should change the oil one year after the date of manufacture, not the date of sale—even if the warranty doesn't legally require it, as that's the right thing to do for the proper future health and longevity of your engine.

This was also discussed in another car forum.
