Some 2022 PP owners on a Facebook group indicate no more reverse beeping sound. Can anyone on this forum validate?

If that is true. The OBDII dongle sale is going to decline. I wonder how many Prius owners have bought OBDII adaptors just for that reason alone. LOL

FYI, I have my 2021 PP with the constant reverse beep ON. I have an OBDII adaptor and app to change it to a single beep, but I actually don't mind the constant beep. But now with 2021 PP having such a loud VPNS *spaceship noisemaker, I really don't need the constant reverse beep to remind me that the gear is in R. lol

That sound is only in reverse? Just curious; I've noticed Tesla 3 are like that. could have sworn the external noise maker was supposed to be regardless of direction of travel, up to some threshold, say 15 mph. But maybe the reg's on that have changed?

No, it's on both forward and reverse. But on reverse, the sound level is noticeably louder. In forward, if the windows are closed, I may not notice the sound especially with music on, but in reverse, even with the windows closed, I can hear it constantly inside the cabin over the constant beeps.

I didn't notice it being louder in reverse. I hear it all the time in reverse and very seldom on forward but that's because the ICE is almost almost on when going forward and almost always off in reverse. Not to mention I back up next to obstructions that reverberate the sound. Sounds about the same volume to me.

Looking up the OBD2 dongle. I had the dealer switch to single beep. What would would the dongle be for? Switch it off yourself?

For that stupid alien noise, I found my speaker in the front, took it out, and wrapped it like King Tutt with pipe insulation, and put it back...now I can barely hear it. Another person said we can just unplug it but connect two wires in the connector to fool the computer from seeing it unplugged (would pop a check engine light) but he didn't say which two wires so I don't know how to do that...which I'd rather do. The beeping noise doesn't come from that alien speaker, from what I can tell.

Was lost in the 2019 facelift in favour of a single beep.

For clarification, the reverse beep is a warning beep for driver inside of cabin that uses the same sound system as all other warning beeps inside the car. This is not the same thing as the VPNS *spaceship noisemaker which is a warning system for the pedestrians around the car. Starting from 2021 Prius Prime, VPNS got much louder than previous year models especially on the reverse gear, and is no longer customizable. The reverse beep has not changed on 2021 PP and is still customizable to a single beep instead of the default continuous beeps.

OP is about the reverse beep being eliminated in 2022 Prius Prime models, but so far, we have not seen any confirmation from someone who owns a 2022 PP.

The 2022 PP has been out for a few months now in the US. There are few 2022 PP owners on PC but haven't chimed in yet.

Wierd. In the uk it’s actually this year and is a 2021 model. I guess up the US is now capable of time travel.

If 2022 owners manual PDF is online, could see what it says. Maybe not definitive though.

Yeah, @Tideland Prius can explain it better, but IIRC, North America Toyota gets the year model starting 6 months earlier or something like that. What I don't know is the 2021 year model in the EU version and the 2021 year model in the US version are considered the same year models. Through in Japanese models into the mix, there may be some confusion as to which year models are considered to be the same model year.

The OP is talking about the US (and North America) version year 2022 model, I believe.

"Automobiles in the United States and Canada are identified and regulated by model year, whereas other markets use production date (month/year) to identify specific vehicles, and model codes in place of the "year" (model year) in the North American make-model-year identifier.
    ...
Model year followed with calendar year until the mid 1930s until then president Franklin D. Roosevelt signed an executive order to release vehicle model years in the fall of preceding year in order to standardize employment in the automotive industry.[6] The practice of beginning production of next year's model before the end of the year has become a long standing tradition in America.[6]"

Sounds about right. The RAV4 Prime doesn’t have a reverse beep, just a louder VPNS sound in reverse. I heard a Prime on the street with the same noise when it was parallel parking and assumed it’s the same setup (i.e. no reverse beep)

I just purchased a 2022 Prius Prime approximately two weeks ago. I love the car. I sold my one year old Chevy Colorado to Carvana for what I paid for it, and the price on the Prime was very good. I do not hear any reverse beep, but do have the alien spaceship noise in reverse and slow speed going forward.
