So I have a 2010 Gen3 (163k at the time, 185k now) which I've picked up is notorious for bad mpg. I also figured my mpg trip meter reads +3 mpg. (At the time) I had about a 8 mile drive to and then from work 5 days a week. I pretty much got 38mpg, 42mpg being the best on my fuelly. I'm just wondering what other people get on drives like this.

    Thanks,

i had a 7 mile commute in my 2012. around 45mpg in winter, and 55 in summer on the display.
but there are a lot of variables

Wow that's amazing if it's accurate. Is it accurate to the pump/fuelly? It did not matter how I drove. I could not get past 38mpg on a tank.

well at the time, my car only had 20,000 miles (i retired at the end of 14.

but as i said, there are so many variables. your car has a lot of wear and tear, geography and climate make a difference, hypermiling, traffic, speed, elevations, tires and etc.

have you cleaned the egr circuit?

67 MPG from the last 6,400 miles. Short drives are usually 60 to 80 mpgs, almost 190,000 miles on the engine.

Define short trip. Our short trips are less than a mile for groceries. A regular trip downtown is 9 miles. A long trip is 1000 miles to the east cost.

Did 2 cold soak short trips this morning, returned using the same route in the city. Engine temp never went over 154 F, no lower engine grill block either to level the playing field. I also have a 70lb subwoofer enclosure + amplifier, LIFEPO4 12.8 pack and solar charging equipment for additional weight.

    A to B - 60 mpg
    B to A - 59 mpg

I do not own a Gen 3 anymore, but when I would take the kiddies to school

It was about a 1.2 mile round trip and due to the warm up stages, I would eek out 35-40 mpg during summer,
and about 30 or so during the winter with grill block and engine block heater.

In my Prius C, I do 3.1 mile each way to work, and I normally get 40-45 during winter and maybe 50-60 during summer
That is a different engine and much lighter car then Gen 3 tho

Lots of variables as mentioned already

... but your pictures are less than an hour apart, so I wouldn't count the second as a "cold soak". While definitely not a warmed up start, it shouldn't be really cold either.

In my 2010 I used to get 48+ in summer, but I am down to 41 mpg on the readout in summer and about 38 in winter. Been declining since 200K miles and about 240K miles now. Cleaned EGR, and throttle body, replace air intake manifold, plugs and PVC valve due to misfiring and made no difference in mileage. Also some drop in acceleration but does OK with power button to get on the highway.

How's the HV Battery holding up:whistle:?

When we had our old 2010, I noticed the decline and got the Hybrid Automotive equipment ;).

Once I began maintaining the battery, mpg's returned :).

    One potential solution(y).

10 mile commutes tend to hover between 40 and 60 mpg.

My short trip average is in the 35-38 mpg, A/C on. These are low speed 35 mph or less, 2-3 mile round trips. Highway mileage is above 50 mpg.

    2013 with 185K.
Route to work is 7 miles if I take the highway (65-75mph), 9.3 taking the streets home (never over 65, 20 stops max).
    get about 40-42mpg and 36-39mpg...
I am a bit inland in San Diego, & the commute has a hills at home & at my work, so that's probably why it's bad, especially since I have a heavy foot.
Temperature has been low 60s to maybe mid 70s.
Leave to work 9PM via freeway, head home on the streets about 6/8AM depending on overtime.

It needs a tune up, gotta clean out the intake manifold and the PCV + EGR things. Miss having 45mpg. Oh and it has a bad tire or wheel bearing, something on the left rear makes a sound.

Also I have wind deflectors and a nice dented hood, might help aero tho
