I've read where some of y'all have put on a new cheapo CAT and sold the original for $1000+. I would like to sell mine for over $1000 also. How do you do it? I see them on eBay and the cheapest is $1500. Is that the way to do it?

Its a Toyota cat and the numbers on the two chambers are GD3 and EA6.

You can post it for sale here.

Can post local to Craigslist, FB marketplace, offer up? etc

Can post to ebay if you have account etc.

Not sure. I thought I just read today that CA needed OEM cats if replaced, but possibly 2008 and newer applicable?
Looks like you have 2007? but perhaps 2008 and 2009 could still bite?

Shipping costs could range from $25-100 depending on who what when where and how it is done.

Good luck to you. im sure you can profit $500-800 depending on how you get the new aftermarket install done.
    DIY or cheap install

Don't forget that ebay takes ~15% now.

Look for a local scrapper that buys scrap metal. You'll be lucky to get $400 I believe prices have collapsed in last 6 months.

The last set I sold was Aug 25th @ $1350, but I believe you are correct that prices have been drifting downward all summer since they peaked back in Feb/March timeframe.

I think the big hitter is that Rhodium is below 12k per ounce now. Was almost 30k back in Feb/March.

If a scrapper is only giving $400 for the two Prius cat components, they saw you coming because that is a rip.

    READ BELLOW

***I had a local Muffler Shop install the $120 aftermarket CAT. & weld it on for $80.00
Total cost parts & labor $200

I used the same 02 sensor and donut gasket that I had on the OEM CAT.

My 08 Prius runs much better with the aftermarket CAT. =Also getting approx. 3 more miles per gallon.
    NO CODES & RUNS GREAT!!!

    =
=== PS- I sold the Prius OEM CAT. for BIG $$$ on Ebay- 'BUY IT NOW PRICE';)

    @qmanqman

If you click your mouse on my user name you will find a phone number. Message me. I can provide you with contact information for the scrap dealer I sell to. You can then message with him directly. He will want photos of the cats and will provide direction on how to cut and package. Remember that ebay takes 15% from whatever price you sell at.

Did I see it wrong or didn't you have a code on your old cat?

I saw all of them already. The cheapest was $1500 yesterday. I put watches on a bunch of them and so far none of them have sold. If one sells I'm in.

    See first post.

Go through eBay's filters and check the box for "Completed Items." You'll see previous listings that actually sold.

Most of the listings on ebay are still living in the world of very high optimism. The sellers are looking back on prices from months ago when metal prices were in the stratosphere. The market has changed. The big player in the game is the rhodium. When the price has gone from $27,000 per ounce down to <$12,000 per ounce, prices on converters change...sellers are NOT going to get the same price as a few months ago.

Maybe worth questioning the original premise of this thread:

A few years back I remember reading about women having preemptive masectomies. This seems similar somehow. Just get some comprehensive insurance? And maybe a shield?

Well, you fear something bad's going to happen to you, so you do it yourself, preemptively??

    Nope.

Couldn't make the P0420 go away by replacing O2 sensors and 3 Cataclean treatments. I've made the P0420 go away numerous times (a dozen cars maybe) by replacing O2 sensors. Unfortunately this time it didn't work. I think it didn't work because my daughter drove with the CEL on for 4-5 years. I think that was more than it could bear. You can kind of see it too. The honeycomb mesh in the front cat has black blockages in some of the holes. The rear cat does not. I thought about trying to clean it but someone here told me I was wasting my time. He said put on a $130 cat and sell yours for $1000.
