I almost felt silly for taking the time to install a catalytic converter shield when I got this car 4 months ago.

But this picture, my friends, is a piece of my cat shield. Notice the rough sawzall cut & the bend where they tried to get an angle on the CC itself. This is just the aluminum version, so easy to cut, but still worked perfectly as a deterrent.

Less than 10 minutes after I discovered the theft attempt (via the awful noise this piece made dragging on the ground) I ordered a stainless steel replacement. Still cheaper than a repair, not to mention no downtime.

So no damage to your cat? That's great news! I bet running a sawzall through a big metal plate like that makes a heck of a lot of noise. They probably got spooked by how long it was taking and decided not to risk it any longer.

What city did this happen in, if you don’t mind my asking? Sounds like a California job.

No damage to the cat. They made this one cut and gave up. You’re likely exactly right…why go through the risk & trouble for this one when there are unprotected CCs all around us?

I’m based in St. Louis, MO but noticed the damage during a trip to Grand Rapids, MI. Could’ve happened in either place…the cut piece probably took a while to loosen and start dragging on the ground.

That Miller Cat paid for itself! It sucks that they destroyed it, but your story is a testament to the rest of us MC owners.

I installed one when I was in NYC before driving back to Cali - even parked it on city streets overnight in major cities. No stolen cat yet.

If you know someone that can weld aluminum? Still, a pain in the butt taking it off.

Not difficult to remove at all. Just grind the rivet and screw heads off with the edge of an angle grinder, and use a punch to knock out the rivets remaining after the aluminum plate is removed. It is then ready for the replacement.
