Also Toyota has backed off on swapping the intakes? In other words, it was not helping much, if any?

yeah just keep on top of cleaning.

Did you get the old valve back?

I just got the new one that I ordered as a pre-need part.

It is just a solenoid with two contacts and a diaphragm with a spring that open and closes the when a current is applied the the solenoid.

If you can blow through the old valve, it probably means that the loud bang and over pressure ruptured the diaphragm.

Also, fortunately, at my Toyota dealership, my service manager (not the service writer) allows me to talk directly with the technician.

It kind of blows me away when some of us find it necessary to pile on after the fact with things like you should have done it yourself and here is how I would maintain the engine.

I have had a Profitable 4 days with my car establishing myself at the "Platinum" level on Lyft, and the "Diamond" level on Uber. Yesterday, I did an oil change at 103,002 miles, and was able to crawl under the car to inspect the Orange cable. It was fine. The cable was not where I mis-remembered it was. I said in earlier posts that it was close to Exhaust Heat Recovery unit after the Cat. The cable is more than a foot away, and there is a heat shield in between.

I filled out the survey and gave the dealership a "Two" out of "Five", and I checked the box for "no" I won't be returning to them . I had about 500 characters to explain my dissatisfaction, and it was polite, and to the point. I was not given proper information about what was still wrong with the car when the SM let me take it home the first time.

OK on Sunday, I performed an oil change at 103,002 miles. Here is a before oil change picture of the dipstick. Down about 30% of a quart in 5K miles. I am guessing about half of that must have been in the bottom of the Intake Manifold. I need to get an Oil Catch Can!

Wait, I may be overthinking this but is that the stock dipstick with those bends on the end? Mine is straight.

A little bit more: IIRC the distance between the dimples is 1.5 liters (1.6 US qts).

Could it be all that oil in the bottom of the intake manifold has something to do with the evap valve situation?

Have you really removed and measured the oil yet?

I remember looking in my intake manifold and thinking "wow, that looks like a big lake in there" and slurping it out with a tube and a vacuum and getting maybe a ml. I don't have a catch can.

That oil in the intake sump is only a portion of what came through the PCV; a fair amount could have passed through, into the combustion chambers? Still likely not a lot; just food for thought.

The PCV valve only lets oil vapors in when the intake manifold develops a vacuum. It is a one way check valve. There would have had to be an engine backfire from the intake manifold into the PCV and EVAP valve for an over pressure condition to occur to blow the hoses off both the PCV and EVAP valves.

Well I did buy my 2013 used, with 23k miles on it in March of 2017. Somehow, I don't think the previous owners replaced the dipstick. I did not replace it.

    Hello Gromitto

How is your Prius running? How many miles have you put it on it since the last dealer visit? I just joined Priuschat so that I can reply to this thread. Early on in the thread you said you heard a loud pop from the rear seat area. It is not too difficult to get to the hybrid battery if you have some basic tools and electrical knowledge. I suspect that one of the models may have died in a horrible way! (The loud pop)

There are a lot of catch cans for sale on Amazon and eBay. The trick is to buy one that:
    - Is easy to mount in a Prius v
    - is easy to empty
    - Can hold about a half quart, as I would like to make emptying the can a part of the oil change routine every 5K.
    - some have dipsticks, which allows for checking between oil changes.
    - I don't have to worry about failing CARB emissions for the existence of a OCC.
    - no "Breather"

    Any Recommendations?

If it is a non oem part, it might not be measuring the right level/amount of oil in the oil pan.

An overfilled engine is bad too.

OK that is the "silver" version. The black version is $1 less. But @Georgina Rudkus has all that room with the "short arm" intake.

Attached are a few oil cat can installation photos made over the years by other users on Priuschat. These users had OEM intakes. Most installers use the space behind the headlight on the driver's left side of the car.

The dipstick is useless. The oil ladened vapors deposits coat it and give a false reading that the can is fuller than it is. It is a hassle that it hinders the removal of the collection cup. I plugged mine with an M6x1.0 screw and a Viton o-ring.

The correct dipstick for the Prius v is 15301-37010. It is straight with no bends. I purchased my Prius v new and also have an additional NEW replacement dipstick purchased from McGeorge Toyota. If your dipstick is not correct, it may cause an overfilled crankcase and possible damage.
