How long are you having to wait for your dealership to get a prius prime for you? I have called five dealerships and have been on their waitlist for four months and still nothing. I am curious if I should start looking out of state?

I waited 1 week for the dealer to find and take delivery of my 2022 PP. I was ok with any colour and they ended up finding my third choice 125 km away.

Putting a deposit down probably helped to show I was serious and not just trying to kick a tire.

No waiting. Bought 2017, 2020, and most recently 2021 PP. Never waited. I always pick one they have in stock and negotiate the price down. Not just PP. I have never ordered a new car. Always work with what they have on a lot. Now, if I want a 2022 PP, I may have to wait a while before they start showing up in the local dealer's inventory list.

oof that's a long wait! You should consider broadening your search to outside your immediate area or maybe put off your search for a little while if you don't need a car immediately, since you're already a few months into a wait...They may well have a markup and the toyota incentives aren't great. I was in a bind because my daily driver was totaled by a deer. I wouldn't have been car shopping this year if I could help it.

When I purchased my Prime a month ago I had to expand my search out a ways. I found my car at a dealer about 3 hours away. It was on their lot and not already spoken for, which was my main struggle - plenty of Primes on dealer websites but most were already sold, still in transit or both.

4 months is a long time to be waiting. When I tentatively looked for Primes 4 months ago back in July there was plenty of stock and a number of 2021s still available with a killer $5000 toyota incentive. I wish my insurance had just declared my old car totaled back in July when I hit the deer instead of waiting 2 month just to have the shop send an updated parts list and them saying 'sike! it's totaled!'. I ended up shopping for a new car in mid-October and while there were fewer available Primes than in July I was able to locate and buy one in about a week. If I had waited on my nearest dealer I would have only waited about a month. One had an XLE due to arrive in early November and I got a call last week from the next nearest dealer that they were expecting an LE to arrive before December.

Some folks here purchased their Primes out of state and either made a trip to pick it up or had it delivered. If your local dealers try to jerk you around with a crazy markup (I heard some are marked up over 5k in Cali!) it may be cheaper to purchase out of state and have it shipped to you.

I was at a dealer in SOCAL and they wanted a 10k markup on Prius Prime XLE, 7k on Venza Hybrid, and 10k on RAV4 Hybrid.. I was just there for service and I'm thing Wth ? ?

It might be the backlog of ships off the shores of US that the containers are on hold also.

10K markup? No way I would pay over MSRP.

We got our 2021 PP in April .We contacted our dealer in early April and told them we wanted one, they checked what was in transit in the US and found our red Limited available somewhere we put down a $500 deposit and about three weeks later in was on the truck at our dealer. We saw it come off the truck and it has been ours ever since. No upcharge or any other price increase.

I am holding my breath as well. Is it normal to be blue?

I'm also waiting for the next gen... hopefully supply chain issues will be a little better next year because right now all I see are mostly empty car lots with only marked up used cars. But to the original poster good luck in getting the car! It's a crazy market right now.

Thank you, I am now contacting out of state dealerships and asking about having one shipped. I refuse to pay above MSRP.

Why is your local preferred dealer not doing the search for you and bringing it in?
My dealer did that for me.

I live in the country and no dealership is claiming me as their local customer. All the primes are going to people that live close to the dealerships because they are putting them on waiting lists. I have literally called all oregon dealerships. I am now calling California but they have less availability and more demand for the car. I have started in Arizona and Texas now.

That's the rub right there. My local dealership was able to find something for us pretty quickly after we made it easier for them - gave up on the LE and went for Limited in a more common color. But they aren't helping anyone too far 'out of town'.

    A deposit might help.

Yeah, we did a $500 deposit, which they didn't even charge until they got confirmation from Toyota that they got the car.

I put $2,000 CDN = ~$1,600 USD down and was flexible with color. Local dealer found one in a day. Took delivery in a week.

In SoCal we're waiting 1-2 years for the loaded Prime XSE Premier. Very scarce car, and California is going to get the most cars. GOOD LUCK!
