Needs to be be plug and play since Toyota's ecms would scream otherwise. I would assume it takes a lot of intelligent power electronics converting one charging and discharging algorithm to another.

However we hear there are running prototypes in existing Prii. So technically it seems feasible. Reliability, safety and cost remain to be determined since these are not being developed by a multi-billion dollar manufacturer.

Yes, but let me include the extra verbiage to make it more official.

If the battery leaves you on the side of the road (or even closer to home), you have to tow it to a dealer or a 'repair shop' to have the codes (DTCs) read and diagnosed. They won't reimburse you for either the tow or the diagnostics, hence the need for better tow coverage.

    WARRANTY REQUEST SERVICES
All warranty service requests must be initiated by calling 888-473-7265.

All suspected warranty claims must first be diagnosed by a repair shop or a Toyota dealership. The following information must be provided by the repair shop or dealership:
Diagnostic trouble codes for the Hybrid Control ECU
Diagnostic trouble codes for the Hybrid Battery ECU
Diagnostic trouble codes for the Engine Control ECU
Upon review of the repair shop/dealership diagnosis, and determination of a battery failure within the warranty period, Green Bean battery will replace the failed battery in accor- dance with the warranty. Green Bean Battery will not reimburse for diagnostic expenses or towing associated with any warranty claims.

No warranty replacements will be processed without a diagnosis, and diagnostic trouble codes from a repair shop or dealership. No exceptions.

Unless someone has a three (3) year battery, then It appears the 'warranty request' process varies, which seems odd and confusing (to me).

I was only asking because my limited experience with LiON batteries is that they take completely different chargers and handling than NiMH. Charge/discharge rates, SOC differences, etc.

Our 2017 has the Lithium battery. Pretty sure it has 56 cells compared to the 28 cells in a NiMH pack. I think the voltage is even different. I would imagine a reprogram of the ECU (Different "chip"?) would be the least required.

@Valiant V AzusaPrius has posted the links for the lithium battery developed by @jacktheripper and Co. I believe 12 cars in different locations world wide got the beta test versions and now has sold out the initial group buy. They are just the cells and you install them similar to how you would a @2k1Toaster (NiMH) product.

I personally bought an eBay 12V 46B24R LiFePO4 and have been using it for over 2 1/2 years now. This comes with internal BMS and backup cell I activate by pressing the V-meter display button. I of course paid a premium of $36x or somewhere around there. They are now hovering around $400 with same backup power source....

(I recently found our '04 Sienna battery dead. Last night I pulled it out geeze it was heavy. I have been researching replacement and may go with a $600.99 80D26L this time. I KNOW my back will thank me)...

i called green bean yesterday and asked about the lifetime warranty as the website doesn’t currently have that info - the rep said that a lifetime warranty is available for additional $30.

thats less than 2% percent of the $1449 + tax, i’ll be spending for my gen 2 battery

    Welcome to PriusChat!!

Is there a reason why you would buy a used battery (green bean) for 1529+tax, instead of a new OEM or new third party NiMH or Lithium?

Because I don't believe that anybody thinks that any "battery rejuvenation" technique will make an old battery as good as a new one.
    Do you ? Really ??
